5. DEHYDRATION? I went out on the porch one morning a couple of
years ago, watered some plants, and then sank gracefully to the ground. Emergency came but I was OK. The doctor the next day had blood tests run, but the symptoms were dehydration, which emergency figured. Electrolytes flushed out because I been drinking lots of water because it was hot...but drank too much! It took me a couple of weeks of monitoring to get back to normal.

6. Same here.
Ambulances are noisy and expensive.

I'm a little more conscious of my water intake now.

19. I had to take a gal to the emergency room
Edited on Wed Dec-13-06 11:04 PM by Skittles
she was TDY here working with me, and she complained of all sorts of strange things, including trouble swallowing and speaking. She had just been prescribed a new medication so we stopped at her hotel room to get the medicine and I took her to the emergency room - she was diagnosed as very dehydrated too - it's pretty strange what that can do to a person, and stranger yet that people sometimes just cannot tell they are not getting enough fluids.

11. I know someone who had the symptoms of a stroke..
however, it turned out to be a severe migraine...she never felt any pain, just lost the ability to speak for a period of time. I had another friend who had an episode like that at the very end of her pregnancy. Very scary, I guess it happens sometimes.

On the other hand, I hope it's not a brain tumor..

18. It could have been Bell's Palsy. Physical exhaustion can bring it on rapidly and unexpectedly.
The left side of my face was paralyzed and the left side of my body numb and tingling. Thought it was a stroke. Nope, just slinging hash and making Martinis 32 hrs. a week while keeping a 4.0 gpa to get a fellowship when I got to grad school...

No sleep, horrid eating habits, living on caffeine and nicotine, writing and reading when no on my feet all night...it happens. Nature's little way of saying "Wake up! Go to sleep!"

20. CNN's Dana Bash just said Johnson is in surgery.
It was the Breaking News segment on Anderson Cooper's show. That is not good. All the Best to the senator.

I mean, it's something that's fixable...whatever is wrong with him. I'm just trying to be positive here.

23. Hmm.. I wonder if that's a possibilty?
From what they've reported, he had at least some of those symptoms..

Symptoms of Brain Aneurysms

Ruptured Cerebral Aneurysm Symptoms

Sometimes patients describing "the worst headache in my life" are actually experiencing one of the symptoms of brain aneurysms related to having a rupture. Other ruptured cerebral aneurysm symptoms include:

Nausea and vomiting
Stiff neck or neck pain
Blurred vision or double vision
Pain above and behind the eye
Dilated pupils
Sensitivity to light
Loss of sensation

Unruptured Cerebral Aneurysm Symptoms

Before an aneurysm ruptures, patients often experience no symptoms of brain aneurysms. In about 40 percent of cases, people with unruptured aneurysms will experience some or all of the following cerebral aneurysm symptoms:

Peripheral vision deficits
Thinking or processing problems

Speech complications
Perceptual problems
Sudden changes in behavior
Loss of balance and coordination
Decreased concentration
Short-term memory difficulty
Fatigue

They didn't say anything about him having a severe headache before the slurred speech, just that he hadn't been feeling well. The list of symptoms under unruptered aneurysms does mention speech complications.

I sure hope the news is good when they finally do come out with definitive information..

24. The second set of symptoms sound like what we learned today
And then he went into surgery. Tom Oliphant survived an aneurysm. Well, we should know by tomorrow.

Perfect little smiley there.
