Do people reallly want to hear an Iraq speech the week before the Holidays?
I know that sounds like the lead in to a Fox News spin on why Bush might not give the big policy speech that everyone was talking about just a few days ago but it is, I am sure, something the White House (Rove) is weighing when making this decision.

I think that people in this country are finally seeing what the world community saw from dayone with W&Co. The world looks to us, at us, for hope we are supposed to be the good guys. Yes of course we make mistakes but for the most part we are seen as, at least, the last best chance. I think the same sort of thing is hitting the American public.

People are tired of:
Being scared
Having to keep the pressure on
Having to keep the boot down
and basically not having any fun.

I don't mean this is a flippant way. It's not like everyone has forgotten 9/11 they are just tired of being beat over the head with it.

I sense a mood that people want a short little break from the war in Iraq. Not that they want to forget it they just want to be able to sit back and relax a bit and really enjoy the company of relatives and friends (and the crushing moodiness and interfamilial squabbles) that the holidays have with them.

Just a few weeks. That is all they ask.

I wonder if the White House is taking this into consideration. I can't believe that they wouldn't but then these jackholes haven't got anything right yet so I don't know why I might expect them to not screw this up too.

1. I doubt it would be welcome in the conservative community
Why fuck up their drunkeness and fake piety during the Christmas season. They are too busy buying gifts, flooding the big boxes, eating and drinking to excess, touching young children in inappropriate manners and pretending to still be patriots to be troubled with news that yes, American Soldiers still are dying because "conservatives" are worthless fucking idiots.

I don't listen or watch the thug. I just check in at DU every now and then to find out what the loser has been up to lately. Meanwhile, our kids continue to get slaughtered. Merry Christmas bill kristol and richard perle and wolfowitz and limbaugh and the rest of enablers.

3. Yeah but the week after the Holidays is all that is left
I would guess that they would like to wait until after the New Year to have a "new year new plan" banner behind him but obviously this is a real problem RIGHT NOW. They can't wait for two more weeks because then they will be pre-empting bowl season and we just can't have that.

2. well I certainly do not want a "break from the war"
Edited on Tue Dec-12-06 04:07 PM by Skittles
and shame on anyone who does....I want something done about it NOW - I don't give a F*** what time of the year it is. I'm betting the young solider in Baghdad who used a phone I card I sent him to listen to the wails of his newborn son would like a "break from the war".

6. I do know what you are saying, underpants
a conservative freak at work last night actually said it - he should wait until after the new year to lay out his "plans" - man, I lit into him.

5. You're Kidding Right?
The White House is just playing for time that's all, they would give a KKK speech on Martin Luther King Day, and not think twice about it.

I would suggest that those who have families and friends in the military, who have not deployed to Iraq keep their eyes and ears open, because I suspect that BushCo is already planning on an increase
in troops on the ground. They just need this time to formulate their plans and when the day of the big speech comes troop deployments will already be finalized, and units will receive their marching
orders.

If i'm wrong I'll donate $25 to a charity that you pick.

8. My choice of charities is obvious
The Disabled American Veterans (DAV.) Sadly you are no doubt correct. Why would a fucking psychopath even consider doing the right thing? Thanks to the man that conservatives admire, the DAV will need a whole bunch of donations for decades to come.

9. They are using the counter plans (DoD, State, NSA) to stall for time

and to offer (gee I wonder what these reports will say and how alike they will be) other alternatives.

There is a rumor going around that Cheney wants to back the Shi'ites and go full bore into the Sunnis. Bloodbath to follow. Basically reinvade like everyone thought Friedman was nuts to talk about two weeks ago.

If you are wrong and I lose track of this post-DAV (as Boos posted above).

7. Gee, maybe you are right. I am sure our troops, who are being maimed and killed everyday
in Iraq would like " a short little break from the war" or to "be able to sit back and relax a bit and really enjoy the company of relatives and friends (and the crushing moodiness and interfamilial squabbles) that the holidays have with them". I am sure the Iraqi people would like a break too.

I don't see a problem with Bush taking a much needed break from thinking about the "war" HE started.... as Condi says "It shouldn't be surprising that he needs more time" After all, it is HARD WORK being the "Deciderer"..and he KNOWS that "IT'S TOUGH" in Iraq.

In fact, it is really TOUGH for all of us who have to stand by and imagine the unrelenting horror that is Iraq. So, yeah, let's just all forget about the fear and blood and the body parts for a few weeks and really enjoy this holiday season.

:sarcasm:
