What's with all the recent black and white thinking on DU?
The endless and mostly pointless IWR threads.

The threads about not voting for someone if they were not born with a donkey sticking out of their ass.

The threads about this one or that one being the *only* choice for 2008.

The world just ain't black and white, yanno.

Some gems from the recent past .......

********
"I won't vote for anyone who voted for the IWR'. Yeah, okay, whatever. No, that's not a pass, but geez, give it a rest.
********

********
"I won't support anyone who hasn't been a Democrat for all their lives." And yet, there are endless threads about what a great guy Jim Webb is and what an ogre Wesley Clark is. For what its worth, I like BOTH these guys. A lot. But look around and study. Clark's generally pretty liberal, no matter what 'some people' around here would wish to show otherwise. Jim Webb, an *actual* former Republican, is going to give many of us fits as he starts doing whatever it is he plans to do as a Senator. I suspect, in the final analyis, Clark will prove to be a true lefty and Webb will be what he's always been .... and independent man with varied views that cover the spectrum of political thought.

Getting past these two names, I have to ask ....... how can anyone be so exclusionary and wary and endlessly suspicious that they would discount anyone who ever voted for the wrong guy twenty years ago? People evolve and views change. Get used to it.
********

********
"<Insert hero du jour here> is the ONLY person who can win in 08!" Give me a break. Not ONE of us here knows what will turn the election in the 08 season. We don't even know who's running. And in the final analysis, who EVER runs as the Dem nominee will be head and shoulders better than anyone who will run on the Republic Party ticket.
********

Of late, there seems to be much more in the way of mental masturbation than substance.

Go ahead ... flame away ..... I'll be out hanging my Snoopy lights on the front of the house .........

Sorry, for me that's a litmus test. Others may differ - I respect that.

Ooops.

I remember there being a comic book awhile back entitled something like "Vampires On Capitol Hill."

5. Don't know about you - but I look forward to
some folks that noone here is yet talking about/promoting - stepping into the ring. What I mean - is the 'unknown' candidates - there are always a few - and often they add a great deal to the overall campaign. I don't mean the unknown oddballs (best known being LaRouche - and thankfully *those* folks don't seem to be pimping for him around here, just yet) but the folks that aren't widely talked about beyond their small circle - who then burst on to the national stage - last time around I think of Clark, Dean and Kucinich - a year before they announced - not widely discussed as candidates.

10. Personally, I wish someone who has never served in public office,
but someone who knows history, can balance a check book, and who comes from real people run and get elected. I know that could never happen in coporate Amerika. I'm sure they are already wheeling and dealing who there going to pump up and allow to win. They own the media.. the media will spin who they want. And that's the end. 08 is decided by other people... which is why Dean trying to bring politics back to a local, grassroots level is so important..

Not nice to marginalize something so heartfelt, however, considering I started one thread (assuming one thread is within your level of tolerance) that spawned a multitude of shadow threads, I will assume I am exempt from your above admonition and will go ahead and agree with your OP. Please advise if that is not the case and I can retract my thumbs-up. :)

too late to retract. You have made it abundantly clear elsewhere on DU that you are, in fact, referring to specific POVs rather than a general overview, and I want to make it clear that I don't support censorship.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=2999429&mesg_id=2999603

You have an interesting technique in suppressing that with which you don't agree, almost got by me at first but I chose to give you the benefit of the doubt until you made your real intentions clear.

You can continue to try to marginalize those that aren't willing to dismiss the gravity and responsibility of the IWR all you like, but that really only speaks to your inability to tolerate a point of view that doesn't coincide with yours and I won't even go into what it takes as a person to dismiss responsibility for the gravity of that vote.

FTR using "cudgel" in your other post gave you away, the difference is you spelled it correctly whereas the source of that comment did not.

22. I have a theory
I think most of us are spinning our wheels waiting for the new Congress to get going. We don't know if we're going to be cheering or howling (more likely a chaotic combo of both) and we're antsy to just get our game on. So we focus on minutia to keep our minds off the interminable waiting.

They just aren't throwing us many bones right now, so we're tearing each other up so we have bones to gnaw on, see?
