Were You Thinking Something Was Going To Change? Ha!
Edited on Fri Dec-01-06 12:31 AM by MannyGoldstein
After all of 3 weeks or so, it looks like the Brave Congressional Dems are back to their fearless selves:

From the NY Times: The Only Consensus on Iraq: Nobody’s Leaving Right Now

"In the cacophony of competing plans about how to deal with Iraq, one reality now appears clear: despite the Democrats’ victory this month in an election viewed as a referendum on the war, the idea of a rapid American troop withdrawal is fast receding as a viable option

...

Even the Democrats, with an eye toward 2008, have dropped talk of a race for the exits, in favor of a brisk stroll."

1. At the risk of appearing snarky, did you happen to notice that
there are no more democrats in congress now than there were a year ago?

Since, by your comments, you appear to be in agreement with the NYT, ... oh, never mind-it's just too disgusting and wearying to bother with.

2. Does this mean that the NY Times still has credibility with you?
It doesn't with me. It hasn't since it served as a cheerleader for Bush's attack in Iraq.

The Democrats won't even be controlling Congress until January. Seems like condemning them now is a bit premature.

3. Ouch

That was a depressing time.

But Howell and Judith, the folks most responsible for that disturbing behavior, have been excised. I'd have to say that they've been quite well behaved for the last two years or so.

5. Not from my perspective.
Remember the 2004 election? Their coverage on election fraud was minimal. They don't seem to do investigative reporting anymore. It's not the same paper that it used to be.

4. The Constitution was changed??
When did that happen? When did the Congress gain the authority to direct troops??

And when did the Dems ever advocate rapid troop withdrawal anyway? A sensible strategy that includes diplomacy has always been the goal, the key difference being whether to connect withdrawal to a timeline or not. That hasn't changed at all.

6. Right. Bush is still Commander-in-Chief.
Some people don't seem to understand that.
