‘It's just been a real hard time,’ ex-lawmaker says

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Former U.S. Rep. Mark Foley, who has been in seclusion for weeks, attended a visitation Friday for his father, who died this week of complications from cancer.

Foley checked himself into an Arizona facility Oct. 1 for what he said was treatment for alcoholism.

“It’s just been a real hard time,” Foley told The Associated Press.

Foley resigned from Congress on Sept. 29 after being confronted with sexually explicit computer messages he sent to male teenage pages who had worked on Capitol Hill.

I have no problem with people smiling while attending a funeral. It happens. I was acting outraged like republicans did when President Clinton at the time was smiling a few seconds at Ron Brown's memorial service. The freepers couldn't stop talking about that.

...I mean, I know it's a complete coincidence, but who would have guessed that the time it takes to heal is exactly the same amount of time it takes to hold a Midterm Election?

Seriously, it's a day of loss for Foley and I'm not making light of that. Good things happen to bad people, bad things happen to good people, etc. etc. etc...

What he did was wrong, illegal, and we all know that he won't be treated in the same manner as an average Mr. or Ms. Middle America caught in the same offense. He's a man with a sickness in a position of privilege, and that's his legacy.
