My opposition is clearly to the Republic Party .... I oppose endless, unlimited funding.
My head is someplace in the middle. So lemme throw this out and ask you to help me bat it around. I am only thinking out loud here .... don't assume this is a proposal. IT IS NOT. It is simply a germ of an idea.
I think it is pretty clear we're not going to be in Iraq a whole lot longer. The end is in sight, to be sure, the raving of the lunatic class notwithstanding. But doing **anything** precipitously can become a minefield, even if most of the country *seems* be on your side.
So here's my idea ...... what if we articulate a funding policy that stipulates that (within broad standards of reason) the field generals can have anything they want. In other words, fund fully 'the troops'. But also stipulate the Pentagon gets an 'administrative maintenace' budget. I'm not as sure how to frame/state/articulate this, but the idea is to give the overall militrary enough to function but not enough to continue to wage war. I also don't know how to separate the waging of THIS war from the general operation of the military.
All of this would, of course, need to be framed as OUR plan to get the fuck out of Iraq. With the words 'get out' being operative.
Anyway .... comments appreciated.
