Haggard confesses, still doesn't get it
Haggard:

"I am so sorry for the circumstances that have caused shame and embarrassment for all of you," he said, adding that he had confused the situation by giving inconsistent remarks to reporters denying the scandal.

"The fact is I am guilty of sexual immorality. And I take responsibility for the entire problem. I am a deceiver and a liar. There's a part of my life that is so repulsive and dark that I have been warring against it for all of my adult life," he said.

The sad thing, of course, is that he still doesn't understand which part of his life is replusive and dark.

2. I should start a poll...how many here have had a non-sexual and
non-therapeutic same-sex massage, and then later bought meth from the masseur/masseuse? :eyes:

3. I find it profoundly sad that he is so invested in the "repulsive and dark" propoganda
that he can't just be whoever he is. Even sadder is that ours largely is a culture where fundamentalism rules with such an iron fist that many people do, indeed, become deivers and liars.

OMG -- check this out!

http://frum.nationalreview.com/post/?q=NWZkNjE3YzhmNjhhMDk5YWQwYWM3NzMwNmMwODg1Yzk=

David Frum @ National Review:

Consider the hypothetical case of two men. Both are inclined toward homosexuality. Both from time to time hire the services of male prostitutes. Both have occasionally succumbed to drug abuse.

One of them marries, raises a family, preaches Christian principles, and tries generally to encourage people to lead stable lives.

The other publicly reveals his homosexuality, vilifies traditional moral principles, and urges the legalization of drugs and prostitution.

Which man is leading the more moral life? It seems to me that the answer is the first one. Instead of suggesting that his bad acts overwhelm his good ones, could it not be said that the good influence of his preaching at least mitigates the bad effect of his misconduct? Instead of regarding hypocrisy as the ultimate sin, could it not be regarded as a kind of virtue - or at least as a mitigation of his offense?

To these people, a faithful, married gay man is worse than a hypocritical, moralizing, closeted philanderer. Praise Jesus!

5. He's a fucking chickenshit, is what he is!!! No SWAGGART moment for him!!!
In a letter that was read to the congregation of the New Life Church by another clergyman, Haggard apologized for his acts and requested forgiveness.

No guts...couldn't get up there and read his own boo-hoo text!! Way to play it, shitheel! Now, he's DONE. He should have brazened it out and faced the music. He could have built a new career on the ashes of the old, if he played it right.

Of course, that's a good thing, because that's ONE LESS HYPOCRITE on the national stage, playing a sick game of "Let's mix faith and politics."

8. Swaggart told his congregation that "God says it's none of your business."
:eyes: After preaching one thing and practicing quite another for decades, to the point of suggesting that a prostitute allow him to have sex with her nine-year-old daughter, Swaggart told his congregation, "God says it's none of your business."

Swaggart didn't face the music in any way, shape or form.

just come out of the closet, lead a quiet peaceful life somewhere, and enjoy nice sunsets like everyone else instead of becoming these despicable, slimebag con artists?

16. It is sad. Maybe he'll take up the offer of the local gay church and join them
It would be the best thing. He could finally face this issue and come to terms with it. Find out who he is, homosexual, bisexual, whatever, and learn to live in his skin.
