600,000 innocent people sentenced to death by George Bush...
and one sick old man who can't hurt anybody any more.

Let's try to keep things in perspective.

Our country's soul is sick unto death, with lies, torture, vengeance, murder, greed, hypocrisy, militaristic strutting, meanness, sadism, callousness, neglect, secrecy, powermongering, war profiteering, massive theft, spying, blackmail, dirty tricks, fear, religious hypocrisy, monstrous corporate monopolies gobbling up all resources, property, wealth and power, usury, looting of pension funds, contempt for the poor, medical profiteering, lack of decency, lack of compassion, the filth of political campaign contributions ($3 billion for these elections, much of it going to the same corporate news monopolies that shovel propaganda at us day in and day out), and all manner of moral and political corruption at the top.

The ghoulish prospect of Saddam Hussein hanging from a rope suits this morally decrepit regime, and the rightwing billionaires and corporate moguls who have inflicted it upon us. What a fitting image for the charnel house they have made of Iraq.

We are a better country than this. We are a better people than this. They have insulted and degraded us enough. Enough!

George Bush making fun of the pleas for mercy of another human being, sentenced to death in Texas--that may be all that remains of this era. That may be what the future will stare back upon in disbelief.

The soul of our once great democracy, with all of its magnificent accomplishments in civil and human rights, in decency and compassion, in scientific wonders and education, in religious and racial tolerance--the inspiration of the world--come to this: a president who makes fun of the dying, a rightwing dittohead who mocks the sick, a bad old man hanging by his broken neck, choking to death, his rickety bones shuddering as his life is snuffed out.

Is this what we have become? Has American become a snuff film? That's what these sick, greedy people would have you believe. Let us hope that Saddam Hussein sentenced to death by hanging is their last gasp at trying to convince us of it.

1. I'm pro-death penalty and I find this disgusting.
There was no part of this trial that was proper. He was the recognized head of state of a sovereign nation. We don't have the right to kill him with any kangaroo court. The Hague was the only appropriate place on this earth to put him.

But if we have the right to hang Saddam, we damn well have the right to hang George.

Edited on Sun Nov-05-06 06:40 AM by luckyleftyme2
I once lived in a proud nation,i was 5 when Japan hit peal harbor. I HAD AN uncle who was sta. there during the attack,I had two great uncles who were blown up by "u boats" and went back to sea. They were the lucky ones, they survived the war and all three were highly decorated.
I carried a quarter to school every week and at the end of the year it bought a $25 WAR BOND.
I COLLECTED TINFOIL FROM GUM WRAPPERS AND CIG. PACKS TO FOIL THE RADAR.
I WAS PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN-NOW I LIVE IN SHAME OF WHAT MY GOVERMENT HAS BECOME.
YEA I SERVED,BUT I WOULD REFUSE TO SERVE IN THIS ONE!

GO DEMOCRATS,VOTE DEMOCRATS INTO HOUSE AND SENATE TUESDAY
THROW THE BUMS OUT,CLEAN UP OUR GOVERNMENT-ONLY WE CAN TAKE IT BACK!

8. Yup, luckyleftyme2, sad is the word. But it is also heartening to see
people re-discovering the principles and foundations of democracy, and love of democracy, by dint of the dreadful example of fascism before us. Now we know WHY there is such a thing as the "balance of power" written into our Constitution. Now we know WHO our Founders were trying to curtail, WHAT they feared, WHY they constructed things the way they did, and why it has worked so well for so long. Bush has exposed all the ugliness of Corporate Rule and fascist corruption, and the terror of an out-of-control executive, and has sparked a rebirth of American democracy.

Whatever happens next week, I think we are on the road to recovery. We still have some very difficult civic and political work to do. And we are going to have our ups and downs, but I'm more than ever convinced that we're going to get our country back, and that the experience of the Bush Junta wrecking crew may result in a better country than we had before. The Corporate Rulers may even be trying to head that off--real reform--by giving us a slim and ineffective Dem majority in the House next week. That's my prediction at this point. I just know too much about Diebold/ES&S to expect anything better. But it's something that the Corporate Rulers may feel the need to throw us a bone. I am also tremendously heartened by the huge Absentee Ballot vote. I think it is a voters' revolt--the first sign of mass rebellion. It's also something we can work with to restore transparent vote counting. People are BOYCOTTING the rigged corporate-controlled voting machines, in big numbers! And they are trying to get around the rigged electronics. With so many people voting this way, we will have some clout with local election officials, at the least to get Absentee Ballots counted properly, a) by hand-counting them, and b) by posting the results BEFORE any electronics are used. Ordinary people have pointed to a strategy for achieving a paper ballot system by default. And it's just an encouraging sign in general. A whole lot of people now know what's been going on. They were demoralized before--because they DIDN'T know. However the Corporate Rulers try to smother it over this time, the cat is out of the bag (--and with that cat, a whole lot of other animals!)

Thank you for your post! I'm of the generation just after the folks who carried quarters to school to buy War Bonds--one of the beneficiaries of your sacrifices. Born during V-E week. You taught us well. The notions of democracy, peace and justice got implanted in our hearts. And I hope we can live up to your example.

6. But then do they care as they do not go to the church like ours
Make people sub-human and you do not need to care for them. Even as a adult I still heard how the Japanese did not think about death as we did so if they were killed it was different. Put out in WW2 and people still saying it in the 90's. It seems to work.

10. Retribution - can it be unlearned?
Will the people of our country learn through this experience? Will the majority strive to create or re-create a better system here in the U.S.? Can we grow toward a society which values each person (large, small, black, white, hispanic, immigrant, native indian, etc.) for the gifts they bring to our community? Can we move toward a humanity centered living and move away from corporate greed? I think there is a good possibility of this point being a good place to start. Human life is way too short to waste any of it on negativity. We all want to live as best as we can each day.

Each time I spend time with a small child I find myself reinvigorated by the simple joy of life they see.
