So Ford is asking Kerry to apologize. Great way to stick together,
Dems. Does this suggest a possible trend for Ford, slamming a fellow Dem, or should we chalk it up to his pre-election 'platform'? Ford disappoints.

4. Ford is just trying to keep from losing votes.
I don't blame him. Whatever works for his campaign is okay. The goal is to get elected and help the Dems get a majority in the Senate.

The only way this is a problem is if it backfires.

Friend, this is unprincipled and unwise, to quote the Chinese. Ford may keep from losing votes for himself, but he harms the the other candidates and the party by legitimizing what we all agree is just a poor choice of words.

This could ruin Kerry, if left to fester. And it has already harmed his ability to help our candidates down the stretch. If true, this is NOT GOOD.

On edit: Too dramatic. I turned down the volume.

16. Moot point now, since Kerry has now apologized to the troops for the misinterpretation.
I respect your opinion, but politics is nasty business, and this is a blip. I don't think this could ruin Kerry. If that's the case, Bush's countless stupid remarks would have ruined his entire illegitimate regime long ago.

17. You know that's a little extreme.
He is just trying to quash any use of Kerry's remark against his campaign. Didn't he say that he knows Kerry was not talking about the troops?

6. I am so sick and tired of this sort of behavior by
the Democrats. IMO, Harold Ford STFU and stay on his message in TN.

This reminds me of when my Senator Dick Durbin was pressured by Lil Rich Daley, of all people, to apologize for his remarks about the treatment of the detainees in Gitmo.

Has Harold Ford ever served?? What his record on veteran's affairs?

Harold MYOB!!!

7. If the apology is worded properly that may or may not quite the critics
Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 10:32 AM by INdemo
But I'm thinking apologizing my be the only way to put this issue to rest.the Republicans are having a field day with this and the media just wont let this die..Especially CNN
You can bet Rove will get all the mileage out of this he can..

However......The media has failed to mention one word about Bush's comments about voting for Democrats.."A vote for the Democrats is a vote for terrorism".......Nothing was mentioned a all about this....

15. I'm not feeling the love either. He's an opportunist, pure
and simple. I never have liked him much (he used to be a frequent guest on talk shows, including Imus) but have held my tongue, hoping he'd get elected and do the right thing. I guess I hope for too much.

14. I want Ford to apologize for not standing up for all of us.
Kerry, women, gays, whatever other groups he has dissed. Even Howard Dean, whom he said was not welcome in TN...and he said it on Imus, no less.

Apologize, Harold.

Disclaimer: if I were in TN I would vote for him.

18. i voted for him the other day and wish i could have my vote back.
pandering, pure and simple, by a man in a close race.

of course, he could have stood up and explained to the dimwitted of this land, i.e., republicans, that kerry's remark wasn't directed at the troops but at bush. i think that's the line the dems should have taken.

instead, they're devouring each other and proving themselves to be fools. they're also showing why they probably won't win next tuesday or in 08. they don't have the singleminded, relentless purpose that republicans, for all their repulsiveness, have.

fuck harold ford for saying kerry should apologize. if he wins, he ain't my senator.

Let me tell you something - Harold Ford is infinitely more popular in Tennessee than Kerry.

Gnaw on that awhile.

19. Did we really nee ONE more thread on this subject?
Seriously - weren't the brazillion before this one enough?

And how come no threads on Cardin and Tester calling out Kerry MUCH worse than Ford did?

Ford merely said Kerry didn't intend to say it THAT way and should apologize if it was misconstrued.

Cardin and Tester said MUCH worse.

21. Why the DU focus on Ford when Levin
Tester, Clinton and several other prominent dems have also said the same thing? Seems a wee bit hypocritical to me.

27. Why do you expect other politicians to
back up Kerry's misstep particularly when doing so would very likely be detrimental to their chances next week?

This isn't about Kerry, for crissakes. There is a very important election around the corner and as far as I'm concerned Kerry flubbed and whatever the rest of the Dems need to do to get beyond it is fine by me and certainly something they should not be attacked over.

Ya know, I gave Kerry every benefit of the doubt, but it's really pissing me off that people are attacking Ford and Hillary now. They didn't fuck up.

The Democratic Party needs a new self-appointed moral scourge now that Lieberman's gone freelance.
