Look: here's the play by play:

Cheney said Charlie Rangel, as Chairman of Ways and Means, will try to raise taxes/roll back the Bush tax cuts. That's perfectly true.

Cheney then said that higher taxes would be bad for the economy. That's debatable, but it's a fair argument for a Republican to make and a lot of people will agree.

In response to these two perfectly normal political debating points, Charlie called the VP an SOB and compounded it with some over-the-top remarks about Cheney's mental stability, the accidental shooting, etc.

Earth to Charlie: that kind of response may be red meat for the leftward-most 5% of the Party, but it turns off uncommitted voters and fires up Republicans. What Cheney said was perfectly fair, whether you agree with it or not. It didn't call for an angry response and personal attacks.

Had Charlie responded that way to another poster at DU, he'd probably have been banned. Let that be a standard in evaluating his remarks.
