You know things aren't going well for Repuglicans when
my very good Republican friend, who was here for dinner Friday night, said that she will be voting straight Democratic ticket this election. Says she has had it with the Republican party. Her words....They are crooks, greedy liars and don't care about anything except getting elected and re-elected!

This is a woman who spent alot of time listening to Rush, who she now says is an asshole, and listening to Faux News, especially Bill O., who she said was a great interviewer! Can't be bothered with them anymore.

We talk alot about politics and she asks for my opinion all the time, but she is not shy about letting me know when she disagrees with me. Can't take all the credit, though, her son has been on her case lately, too.

Still, it makes me feel good when I can actually influence someone through reasoned argument, without getting all loud and nasty.

4. Thank God there are still conservatives out there
Thank God there are still conservatives out there who can see through the right-wing haze. Where I live, I’m surrounded by 30 something Republicans with 2.5 kids. Many a times, I've had calm, logical discussions with these people about the War, civil rights, and the misguided policies of this administration. I’ve walked away thinking I’ve made some progress and that maybe they had more of an open mind than I imagined. Sadly the next day they’re putting up their Santorum re-election signs while wearing their “I hart Halliburton” t-shirts. Seriously, it’s like we never talked.

5. a phenomenon being repeated across the country . . .
I hear more and more stories of "life-long Republicans" who are voting straight Democratic tickets this year . . . including several neighbors in this very Republican town . . . we're trying to elect John Hall to Congress, and right now things are looking far better than anyone would have imagined two months ago . . . whether we end up controlling either house is wholly dependent on just how many races they can actually steal . . .
