***OFFICIAL ENDORSEMENT THREAD***
Edited on Sun Oct-29-06 01:34 PM by ncrainbowgrrl
Here's the deal as I see it- there are loads of awesome threads on DU that are linking to endorsements of Dems on local/state/federal level...but they get lost as we all keep posting more and more stories that are out there. I thought it would be cool to have One or Two threads where we could keep them consolidated (probably less possible than i'd wish)...and then we could see how AMAZING it's starting to look as we get even closer to election day.

Anyone care to help me out/try it? I promise- it takes SO FEW minutes of your time! If you see a story on DU with an endorsement in the title- just copy/paste title and a link to the DU post already in existence!!

It's just a suggestion- if it doesn't work, we can scrap the idea, and I won't be offended (I promise!)

1. Biden backs Lamont but won't campaign against Lieberman

Biden backs Lamont but won't campaign against Lieberman

...Biden also said that while he was supporting his party's candidate for the Senate in Connecticut, Ned Lamont, he would not campaign against Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman, who is running as an independent following his defeat in the August primary.

Biden said Lieberman is a "close personal friend," that his son and Lieberman's son attended Yale together, and that his daughter-in-law was the matron of honor at Lieberman's son's wedding.

"It's a matter of personal honor," he said. "It's not possible for me to campaign against Joe Lieberman."

Bilmon used a quote that I can't seem to get out of my head today:

The louder he talked of his honor, the faster we counted our spoons.

34. Do you think Connecticutians care what a Delaware senator thinks?
I mean, not like I'm seeing Ned Lamont campaigning down here in Delaware for Tom Carper?

The concept of having a 'Newspaper Endorsement' thread with what Joe Biden does pretty much takes away the purpose of the whole thread.

I respect Joe Biden for what he has done - he has done the right thing by endorsing Lamont but as Sen. Biden has mentioned, he has a long friendship with the Lieberman family

15. Gainesville Sun endorses Jim Davis for Governor
http://www.gainesville.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061029/EDITORIALS0101/210290320/1096/editorials

Article published Oct 29, 2006

Davis for governor

Charlie Crist wants to be Jeb Too. Throughout his campaign for governor, Attorney General Crist has promised to carry on the Jeb Bush legacy.

<>Jeb cut taxes by $20 billion over his 8 years. So Crist promises to cut taxes by another $4 billion. He favors doubling the homestead exemption on property taxes. Even some Republican legislators have criticized that idea as a nonstarter.

For one thing, it would put cities and counties - especially small towns and rural counties - into virtual bankruptcy, and Crist has no plan for replacing those local revenues. It would also increase the tax burden on renters, businesses and owners of second homes who do not qualify for the homestead exemption.

Incidentally, one reason local property taxes have soared in recent years is because Bush and the Legislature helped "pay" for state tax cuts by requiring school boards to increase taxes locally and by forcing cities and counties to take on new unfunded mandates. Floridians can't afford that kind of fiscal shell game to continue any longer.

Jim Davis, the Democrat in this race, also thinks Floridians need property tax relief. But he would go about it in a more reasonable way, insisting that the Legislature restore some of the state revenue sharing that was lost to local governments as Bush slashed taxes on the well-off. That and easing up on unfunded mandates would allow school boards, cities and counties to provide property tax relief without having to gut local services.

Davis is a former state legislator and longtime Tampa Bay congressman who is well prepared for the governor's office. He is a thoughtful political moderate who will be able to work with the Republican Legislature to help resolve some of the problems Florida faces: like the insurance crises, runaway health care costs, growth pressures, an unacceptable high school drop-out rate and an underperforming pre-kindergarten program.

We are particularly impressed with Davis' environmental record. He led the opposition in Congress to drilling for oil and gas in Florida waters and fought for the protection of the Everglades. Bush's Department of Environmental Protection has done a poor job of protecting Florida's environment; Davis will correct that.

Containing rising insurance premiums is going to be a tough nut to crack. Davis has proposed a Hurricane Premium Protection fund to pay for wind-damage claims. It would lessen the risk to insurance companies that are afraid to operate in hurricane-prone Florida, and in non-hurricane years, the fund would earn interest and thereby build up its cash reserves.

In education, Davis wants to stop using the FCAT in blunt instrument fashion to reward some schools and punish others. FCAT can tell us where improvements need to be made, he argues, but it is up to the state to ensure that schools and teachers have the resources they need to raise student achievement. Teacher salaries remain so low that Florida-trained teachers are fleeing to Georgia and other states that pay more.

Davis offers Floridians a fresh start and a needed departure from Jebocracy. Charlie Crist promises more of the same: Jeb Too. For new leadership, elect Jim Davis.

that DUers from across the country could partcipate in, and get to see some awesome results as Election day drew closer... so, whatever you want to do re:JRE is cool with me.

Maybe one way to break it down is a new post for JRE endorsements by state or region?

Thanks for helping, by the way! :applause:
