**** is astounded by salaries???? Tie to performance?
****urged companies to tie salaries to performance. Can we hold him to that standard also? In the Boston Globe business section today, a comment **** made during a CNBC interview states that executive compensation packages can get out of hand. (dah!) That's news to all of us, isn't it. If, as he states, pay should be based on performance, by now, **** is in a deficit situation. I guess he should mortgage the farm to pay us back. Incompetency should not be rewarded.

1. Never mind their salaries
what about members of the US Congress ? According to a report yesterday on CNN International members of Congress get $165,000 for working what is effectively a 3 day week - actually averages out that they work 100 days a year. The report continued to state that in the current Congress very little has actually been achieved.

2. You are right about the 100 day report. We discussed just that
yesterday. In addition to the fact that they work about a 100 days, I wonder how much of that time is spent at the barber shop, at lunch, walking around, shooting the breeze. In other words, is even the 100 days "real work"? you know what I mean, the type of back breaking, mind bending stuff we do to keep the wolf from the door. And, lets not mention things like free "best there is" health insurance, pensions etc. Sometimes I wonder why someone would want to be a Senator or Rep but I guess its obvious.

3. This couldn't possibly be further from the truth.
Seriously, you should take some time to find out what exactly Congress does, because you are clearly not informed on this issue. They work FAR, FAR, FAR greater hours than you, and I can say that with complete assurance without even knowing your profession.

7. Problem is.....
Most of what they are "working on" is fundraising and schmoozing the lobbyists and special interests.

This Congress didn't even have to write much legislation. They have the lobbyists and corporate interests do that. Thier two year cycle consists mostly of fund raising and campaigning. Not much time for the people's business.

8. No, they aren't.
You're way, way off. Seriously, if you're interested in politics, do yourself a favor and learn about what goes on. You're not even close as it is now.

4. That is chump change compared to the multiple millions of
$ earned not only by CEOs but also by people several levels down from them (at large companies), stock brokers, mutual fund managers, some "small business" owners, etc.

6. Yep, Bush & Co should be paying us taxpayers back. I suggest that
Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rummy, Gonzales & Ashcroft, etc. take up a collection and pay the $500 billion back to the US Treasury for their little experiment in Iraq!
