C&L Audio: Limbaugh: Michael J. Fox either "off the meds or acting"
Rush Limbaugh attacks Michael J. Fox: ” …he was either off the medication or he was acting. He is an actor, after all.”
By: John Amato on Monday, October 23rd, 2006 at 12:33 PM - PDT

Rush Limbaugh will say anything to attack anyone who challenges George Bush and his policies. This time, his target is Michael J. Fox. Meds are something Rush does have a little experience with.

Emailer Doug: Rush Limbaugh today accused Michael J. Fox, actor and Parkinson's Disease victim, of deliberately going off of his meds to appear on camera with exaggerated symptoms of his disease for dramatic effect. Fox appeared in a recent Clair McHaskill (D-MO) Senate campaign ad, touting the need for stem cell research. Limbaugh even goes so far as to accuse Fox of faking his symptoms all together.

Audio-MP3

"I stated when I saw the ad, I was commenting to you about it, that he was either off the medication or he was acting. He is an actor, after all."

These emails claim Fox has admitted in interviews that he goes off his medication." A tireless search of the Internet produces no such record of any interview, or any statement in which Fox has ever admitted or even suggested that he ever goes off his Parkinson's treatment at all, let alone for the purposes of shaking it up for the television audience.

Despicable, just despicable. Yes Doug, it is despicable.

He's a miserable piece of septic sludge, devoid of any value to anyone. He's spent his entire career shilling for liars, thieves and pedophiles.

3. No way MJF was faking, but not sure if he was on his meds or not
but, to be honest, when I saw it, I assumed he had chosen to go off his meds so that people could see exactly what the effect of this terrible disease is. I've seen him do interviews and his control is much greater when his medication is current. When it wears off, he gets very shaky.

4. Go ahead, Rush. Attack one of America's most beloved
actors who has shown tremendous class and courage in fighting a terrible disease. That's a no-win scenario.

6. Even if he went off meds, so what?
I had a friend who has Parkinsons. (She moved and I've lost touch with her.) She took lots of different pills, some to counter the effects of Parkinsons, some to counter the side effects of the pills she takes for Parkinsons.
Over time, the meds became less effective. Even when she was under the effects of the medications, her head shook and she had so little control over hands that she stopped eating in restaurants.
Sometimes the meds wore off and her symptoms were even worse.

He is a professional liar though.

Turns out his own drug abuse caused it.

27. Exactly.
Anyone who can see for themselves what these horrible diseases can do to people has to be moved. Anyone with a compassionate and caring heart... which would leave Rush out in the cold.

Even if Michael J. Fox was acting, which I don't believe for even a second, how many actors have managed to make the general public more aware of diseases and more supportive of efforts to find cures for the people who suffer. I'm thinking of the film Lorenzo's Oil and how that raised awareness about so many issues for those who saw it.

Some actors choose to sort of "fade out" of the public eye when they've lost nothing more than their good looks and youthful bodies. Thank heaven for Christopher Reeve and Michael J. Fox and all the others whose concern for others outweighed their personal vanity. They have earned our respect and admiration... something that Rush can't ever do.

14. William J. Weiner M.D responds
read more here on the plank
http://www.tnr.com/blog/theplank?pid=51219

Fortunately, I have access to this thing called the Internet and this nifty search engine called Google. A few clicks led me to William J. Weiner M.D., professor and chairman of the department of neurology at the University of Maryland Medical Center. He's also director of the Parkinson's clinic there.

Even better, it turns out Dr. Weiner has a phone. When I reached him, he said he'd seen the ad earlier in the day and was fairly surprised to hear about Limbaugh's reaction. Here's why:

What you are seeing on the video is side effects of the medication. He has to take that medication to sit there and talk to you like that. ... He's not over-dramatizing. ... is revealing his ignorance of Parkinson's disease, because people with Parkinson's don't look like that at all when they're not taking their medication. They look stiff, and frozen, and don't move at all. ... People with Parkinson's, when they've had the disease for awhile, are in this bind, where if they don't take any medication, they can be stiff and hardly able to talk. And if they do take their medication, so they can talk, they get all of this movement, like what you see in the ad.

to keep spewing that kind of filth. he's really stepped in it this time... attacking a well-loved actor. some of his own listeners are going to be wondering if they should tune in tomorrow to face more insults to their favorite stars.

18. I'm sure every last one of them find this funny.
His listeners are ignorant scum who hang on every word this vile ass boil says. MJ Fox has been married for 18 years, has 4 children, cares for others, and is loved by millions.

Druggie Limpballs lives alone in his mansion, 3 failed marriages, childless, trips to the Dominican Republic to pay for sex (hopefully they were of age), viagra, drug-addict, god knows what else about this degenerate piece of crap. His listeners know all this, and they just don't care nor do they see any irony in his obscene rant. And you know why? Because he tells them he's a god fearing man and all the other little code words that go along with that, and that's good enough for them.

As far as the above post about a sub-hell. According to my favorite TV Show, there is a "special" hell reserved for child molestors, and people who talk in the theater.

22. I thought he was off his meds when I saw it and I also thought -
- that he went off his meds on purpose to give everyone an idea of what his disease really does to people. I've seen him in interviews when he didn't have such severe symptoms and he has stated that he gets very bad when he is off his meds.

23. And there is nothing wrong with that
Why shouldn't he show people what Parkinson's looks like? I hope and pray he was off his meds. Otherwise, that poor man is living in Hell.

I doubt Rush Limbaugh would have the guts to show us what he looks like off of his meds.

26. No one has the courage to take Limbaugh on!
And I am most certainly NOT a fan of the jerk. However...with all of this disparaging talk, where is the person willing to take him on?

The last time I saw anyone doing a genuine attack was with the long-ago animation - I think by Symbolman, who isn't doing Flash animation any more:

http://www.bushflash.com/nazi.html

Yes, I know Limbaugh doesn't make public appearances. He doesn't go on other TV or radio shows. He's a voice alone in the studio who takes few calls, probably no calls from anyone who isn't one of his syncopants.

But even he has to be wheeled out of his studio to go to the bathroom sometime; his favorite drugs do cause constipation, but he still has to go sometime. He has to go home. He has to be in public sometime. At some time or another, he is accessable - and nobody, not even those people with the loudest voices here, has bothered to get in his face and scream at him.

If all you people can do is mutter about his drugs and his fat, and grouse around here, save your energy. It won't matter until someone confronts him and forces him to face the results of his actions, the meaning of his lies. Until you face down a bully, you're still afraid of him.

28. "nobody has the courage to take him on..." WRONG
No one here is afraid of that ass clown. No one here lacks the courage to confront him, what we lack is the opportunity.

Or is it a matter of motivation? I mean, it's not like he's important or anything. I'm sure if we're saving our energy for anything, we're saving it for election day... and it's aftermath.

33. not that it matters...
...but i watched an interview with michael j. fox a while back where he talked about testifying before congress about either stem-cell or parkinson's research (can't remember which). he said he deliberately went off his meds to show the effects of the disease, and then they showed a clip of his testimony, and his speech and movement were similar (maybe a little worse) than what we saw a few days ago.

that said, who cares if fox deliberately went off the meds (not that we know if he did)? as far as i know, parkinson's is degenerative, so it could well be that in five or ten years, taking the medication will only help so much. i understand the point that fox is making...i'm really not sure what junkie mcfatterson's point is.
