Google is destroying YouTube!!! But I have some good news too.
Ever since they bought YouTube, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report videos have started disappearing, and the people who had the most Daily Show and Colbert Report clips, have started getting their channels suspended or just had all their videos removed.

O.K., that's not entirely true. First Google bought YouTube and everything was fine, but then, a few days later, Stephen Colbert, on his show, in his "ReThug Stephen Colbert" persona, mentioned the sale and how, since there were something like 2300+ Colbert Report video clips on YouTube, that he was RICH! Because, he said, that's something like 10% of all the videos on YouTube (probably not true) so that meant that YouTube owed him 10% of that $1.56 Billion Dollars, or something like $5 Million Dollars. I think he was joking, though I'm not totally sure.

So the next day, I started noticing Daily Show and Colbert clips disappearing. Then some of the Classic, politically important and very hard to find Daily Show clips that I had uploaded there, started getting randomly rejected, supposedly for copyright infringement. These were not new clips or clips that are available on any DVD or VHS tape that Comedy Central is, or ever was, selling on-line of in stores, they were from 2 to 5 years ago, that had been up for months, that started getting "rejected." Mostly they are clips that contain video that is Historically significant Political News and/or politically embarrassing (for Republicans). The politically embarrassing clips were the first to go.

So, I feel, Colbert's speech (joke?) on his show the other night, has either freaked out the lawyers at Google/YouTube, so are scrubbing YouTube of any clips that even MIGHT invite a lawsuit, or Colbert's speech was a "The Parties Over" notice to his fans at YouTube.

The problem is, the people who argue "Delete them ALL, they are Pirated video..." and claim that the Copyright Law is very clear about this are very wrong. The Copyright law is very unclear when you also take into account the "Fair Use" clause of the Copyright Law, something the "delete 'em all" folks almost never do. Hell, if you read the copyright law selectively, like the previously mentioned crowd does, most of what is on YouTube would infringe on somebodies Copyright in one way or another, so YouTube would be dead within months.

Either way, it Really Sucks! I could go into it further, but what's really important is the news I posted below.

Also, I would guess that The Daily Show and Colbert fan traffic is a BIG chunk of YouTubes' daily hits, so if any of you hold any Google stock, you might want to keep an eye on it's price.

:hi: But I DO have some REALLY GOOD NEWS! :hi:

There (their?) are hundreds of Classic and New Daily Show and Colbert Report videos at an almost identical (it uses the same technology) and just as well known site, but their videos section is a much less well know part of this site, and their TDS and Colbert clips get much less traffic than those on YouTube did. It does seem a little bit slower when posting the videos though.

It's MySpace's video section.

I know, MySpace is owned my Rupert Murdock, but I've been on MySpace for 2 months now, and I've yet to see any Murdock influences.

And Check this out! I was going though the The Daily Show videos, just now, and found one of the BEST EVER clips!

Some of you might remember back, during the The Daily Shows week of coverage of the 2004 RNC convention, when Stephen Colbert interviewed Porn Star Mary Carey and her Producer from "Kick Ass Video" Mark? Remember the Pizza?

Well I found that video and it was posted BY MARK! The Porn Producer! Remember, he was the guy who paid the RNC a certain amount of money and was given some honorary title from the RNC!

Anyway, I don't want to give away too much for those who never saw it, but here's the link:

<http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=912659090>

Link to MySpace User Videos:
<http://collect.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.videos>

Here's my Daily Show search link, not sure if it would still be good:
<http://vidsearch.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.fullsearch&TotalRecords=339>

If you want to find more, just put the words Daily Show into the video search box, and you'll find lots more, and if you have a MySpace page, leave Mark a message and tell thanks him for helping to show the Republicans as the Hypocrites they are.

NOTE: If any English Majors out their could look over this message send me a kind note about if I used the proper forms of the word "There" and "Their," I had a lot of trouble in school with my English Grammar, and have forgotten the rule for that word, but would like to improve my English grammar.

4. Occasional "drive by" spyware installations for those who aren't careful.
There was a story on this a month or two ago. It's not on "all" of MySpace, but some of the pages were infected with all kinds of nasties. If you have a robust firewall, up-to-date anti-virus software and a good spyware program, it's not as much of a concern. I do, but my solution has been to stay away from MySpace.

2. I've seen programs that convert video files to "youtube" type flash files
An enterprising individual could start their own site for just Democratic videos...

3. I think you may be correct about Google/YouTube getting worried...
I was listening to Howard Stern the other morning and they were talking about it. They were saying that a lot of clips from their pay-per-view TV show were ending up on YouTube. He said they never really did anything about it because this was just a couple of college kids who put up a site to host video. Now that multi-billion dollar corporation Google owns the site, he doesn't want them making money off of his stuff without getting some sort of payment. Artie Lange also mentioned that parts of his DVD comedy concert were on there, and same deal, two college kids weren't really doing any harm but now that a big corporation was hosting copyrighted material, he was going to ask them to take it down.

I think the big difference is that when a couple of guys with no money are doing something questionable, most people won't make the effort to do something about it. But throw in a mutli-billion dollar company in the mix and people start seeing a chance to either cash in or keep them from making more money off of their material. I think we'll see more and more of this now that Google owns it.

Good-bye YouTube. Rest In Peace....O8)

5. Interesting, I had thought of the anti-Corp thinking by the general...
...public, but I hadn't thought of the (and hadn't seen yet) the Pay-Per-View Comics and such.

One other possibility that I thought of was, as to what the Real Reason was that they bought YouTube was, to eliminate a competitor (to Google Video) who was not playing by the same set of rules as they had to stick to, I'm sure there are other possibilities, but I always come back to that one.

10. Yep, eliminating the competition probably had a lot to do with it too...
If you can't beat them, buy them.

11. Interesting, thanks.
Yes, I had noticed a LOT of clips with Japanese writing in the descriptions lately, so I bet most of those are gone now.

6. Just so you know, yes, Colbert's numbers are way off...
Something like 70,000 videos are uploaded to YouTube _EVERY DAY_.

And, IMHO, YouTube wouldn't owe him or anyone else anything -- as long as they can argue that clips fall under fair use

13. Those two college kids sure made out like bandits, though.
Unheard of amount of money for a site filled with copyright infringements.

Maybe Google is looking for "new talent" and figured they could drop the stuff with legal problems and expand the newer content for the future. Google might be heading into the Entertainment Business...buy out Disney or another Movie Producer eventually.

Google's copyright nightmare

By Tim Weber
Business editor, BBC News website
Google's takeover of video-sharing website YouTube may look like a nifty business move. For the company's legal team, however, it may soon turn into a long and nasty nightmare....

(clip)

A 'moronic' deal

Until now most copyright holders had little incentive to sue YouTube. The company was young and rapidly burning through its venture capital.

Now that YouTube is part of the Google empire, with a market capitalisation of $129bn (£70bn), there is a serious incentive to let the lawyers off the leash.

As Marc Cuban, a famously outspoken internet entrepreneur - and founder of broadcast.com - put it just before the deal was sealed: "Google (would) be crazy to buy YouTube. No doubt about it. Moronic would be an understatement of a lifetime."

YouTube, he predicted on his Blog Maverick website, will "get sued by thousands of rights holders" and could become a "deep pocketed target" for fake-a-lawsuit companies....

8. "Their" is possessive
For example, "They picked up their equipment and left to go over there. They're (the contraction of they are) never going to get there in time." Hope this helps.

18. Maybe, but the guy is a major hypocrite, he goes on and on about...
...not reading the rules, yet almost half of his videos break one of the first rules, and it not one of the rules that is hidden in the fine print, it's a rule that everyone agrees to every time they upload a new video, regardless of what it is.

And that rule is, Do Not upload anything longer that 10 minutes! Check out the time on his videos, almost half of them are longer than 10 minutes!

And I would respect the guy a whole lot more if he would at least put on a damn T-Shirt. Is that too much to ask?

Hypocrites piss me off. Maybe later, I'll go back and tag his long videos, but for now, I need to go buy some food and meditate on what to do about that joker.
