Why would any gay person be a GOPologist?
Can someone come up with an explanation:

I don't understand why anyone who is gay would want to be a GOPer. This is the party that hates gays, isn't it? The only comparison I can think of is a Jewish person (like me) joining the Nazis.

With people like Dobson, Fallwell, Robertson among others identifying themselves so closely to the GOP, why would any person who is gay willingly be part of it?

6. I recall an elderly black man (can't recall his name)
saying blacks voting for republicans is like chickens voting for Colonel Sanders. Right to the point.

4. I believe economic issues might be
a part of the allure of the gop to some. Gays who are well off may think they are better off economically with republicans and will tolerate the intolerable of the gop.

5. The best answer I can think of
is that they would like to see the party go back to its more Libertarian origins, get government out of people's lives and all that. But they're deluding themselves if they believe that's gonna happen anytime soon.

9. Several possibilities; self-loathing, masochists, Ayn Rand on the brain,
greed, insanity, or else just pure dee old money grubbers with a suit fetish.

10. Because they have deep and unresolved problems.
You're right with your analogy. I know there are
"self-hating Jews" around. I can't figure it out.
I've given up trying to understand people.

11. Money. Power. Influence. HUBRIS....and the most damning of these is
HUBRIS.

A perfect example is ANDREW SULLIVAN. He actually thinks that if he keeps flapping his gums often enough, the Catholic church will come to their senses and not hate him because of his orientation, and that (if only enough of those 'dreadful' gays--read, the ones that you don't need any gaydar to figure out--would simply act more 'normal') one day the GOP won't mind them so much either....but of course, they have to start "behaving" and not "acting gay." Oh, and those "rough looking" lesbians? If they'd just put on dresses and lipstick, and maybe some high heels, why, they'd ADVANCE the CAUSE.

Do I need to deploy that :sarcasm: thing for the irony-challenged?

It's a form of self-loathing, I believe. My former neighbor (gay) was the one who first advanced this theory to me, and I'm not explaining it as well as he can, but hopefully you get the drift. It's a form of "If I just act like THEM, and I'm GOOD in public, then maybe they will love me."
