Did anyone hear what Mike DeWine said today on MTP?
Tim Russert read the poll to DeWine and Brown about 6 out of 10 Iraqis wanting us out of Iraq and then asked DeWine why we should stay if the Iraqis want us out. His answer was that we're not there for the Iraqis but we're there to protect Americans! Yet minutes earlier when asked if he regretted his vote to authorize the invasion knowing what he knows now, he said (after saying there wouldn't have BEEN a vote knowing what we know now, which BTW is the same thing Hillary says) that he stands by his vote because it's a good thing Saddam is out of power. He gassed his own people, torture chambers, rape rooms, blah blah blah. But we didn't go in for the Iraqis, he says, and even though they want us out, it doesn't matter what they want-we went in for US.

4. I thought that when he said "we are not there for the Iraqis"
It was very telling because that`s basically what bush says. When he says "we`re fighting them over there.........", It seems like he could care less about Iraqi deaths. Remember when cheney used to always remind us how many Iraqi deaths there were, when the subject of American deaths would come up. No one in the admin is talking about the terrible toll this "war" is taking on Iraqis. It`s almost as if these people do not matter.

8. Exactly...

There are 3,000 deaths there a MONTH-that's a 9/11 every month with a country with 1/12th the population WE have, and Iraq had nothing to DO with 9/11! So 3,000 deaths to them is equivalent to 36,000 Americans being killed a month! And the Repubs. (other than a couple like Lincoln Chafee and now Walter "Freedom Fries" Jones) don't CARE!

9. You have to think like a Republican to understand this nonsense
Edited on Sun Oct-01-06 10:28 PM by alcibiades_mystery
1) We had to get Saddam out to help the Iraqis (fake human rights concern)
2) We can't leave now because doing so would be a threat to our national security (fake domestic security concern)

There is no contradiction here at all, since the two conditions happened at different times. We went in to help the Iraqis, and now we must stay in to help the Americans. Having no memory helps.

By the way, I did hear it, and I thought it was one of the most shocking statements I'd ever heard. The Iraqis want us out. DeWine essentially said: Fuck what they want. That is, fuck what the Iraqis want. Freedom is on the march...

10. I wish someone would...
make a Dem. commercial showing clips of these contradictory statements asking how we can trust the Repubs. to protect us when they don't even know what they're fighting for...

11. That's the core bullshit of the GOP
"If we don;t fight them there, we'll have to fight them here."

If a forweign nation decided to come into my neighborhood to launch a bloodbath, just to protect themselves, I'd be a little pissed.

And it certainly give the lie to the GOP's professed concern for the Iraqi people.
