“Are we safer Yet?!”

Dangerous legislation has been drawn up in the US Congress, one that allows the President to continue his torture and unconstitutional tribunals has passed both the House and the Senate in some form and another allowing The President’s illegal wire tapping to become legal, even retroactively, has passed the House.

Lets go back in time, it was Feb. 26 1993, a Friday, and a large explosion occurred in the basement parking garage of the World Trade Center. This was the first foreign terrorist attack on US soil. And guess what 5 years went by and NO other foreign terrorist attacks occurred. Our government had kept us safe. Safe with out trampling the Constitution.

Let us pretend that you have an IRA at a large on-line broker and you also have been donating money to a Senate contender through their web site, a contender of a popular sitting Senator. Then one day you find out from your on-line broker that some one was able to access your on-line banking account and just looked at it, did not take any money, did not execute any trades, but may have taken personal info. Does this sound like it SHOULD happen to an average American? Do you think our Government could be the culprit? Well the answer is it has happened to average Americans, to large on-line brokerage houses and YES Your Government could be the CULPRIT! Even Alberto Gonzales in his Senate hearings did not deny it (winter/spring 2006)!!! When answering Arlen Spector, PA Republican, Mr. Gonzales could not assure that electronic communication (of any sort) of regular citizens would be excluded from this Unconstitutional web. This done to keep us “safer”, your personal electronic communications and electronic banking viewed by Your government at THEIR WILL and you have NO recourse. Why does it matter if your not a terrorist? Well some in this administration believe that if you are a democrat and for peace and diplomacy that maybe you are a terrorist and they would like to know what you are up to....(You scoff but just listen to WTIC AM and their line up of Constitution hating regulars like Rush and Hannity)

Yet, we as Americans, still lie idly by and watch this current administration take more and more liberties for LESS safety, yup LESS both our own US intelligence estimate and a recent UN intelligence report say that this ill planned war in Iraq, and our heavy handed foreign policy in general, has created more anti-US terrorists. And here in CT our Senator Lieberman has voted for the War in Iraq, and still stands by this disaster (2712 Brave Soldiers Dead ,60+ Female Soldiers and close to 100,000 Iraqi civilians dead), and voted on Thursday to allow the continued unconstitutional tribunals and continued torture of detainees and, I’m sure, if given a chance to vote yes on the Illegal Wire tapping program he would back the President on that as well.

Lets remember back to 1993. When we did NOT let the Terrorists win by dismantling the greatest document ever written, a document that makes this country great, The Constitution of these United States of America. Lets also remember that the Geneva Convention has kept US soldiers safe from torture during capture for almost 100 years.
