Is it possible/probable that the Dems leaked the Foley story?
We've been chomping at the bit for the Dems to DO SOMETHING for a long time, but I'm wondering if they have a bag full of "tricks" (no pun intended) that they are going to empty, one by one, from now until the election.

The Foley story isn't going to have legs for too long and Woodward's book will die down, so that leaves another month where we need the truth brought to light to keep the media focused on the corruption of this administration.

Remember...we do have Trick or Treat night before the election. May it be fruitful.

2. I doubt it
I assume that there were just too many people who knew. A Republican representative the page worked for turned Foley in to the leadership which did NOTHING. It was clear this representative and at least some people on his stff knew. Obviously the page and his family knew - I assume they were Republican. By doing nothing, the leadership left this predator there to approach other kids and it was likely he was coasting to re-election.

I would guess someone connected to the family or an appalled staffer to that representative or another who knew was the source. I would hope that a Democrat who had access to the emails would have gone to the leadership and demanded him out - and said that in good conscience he had to go to the press and done so immediately. This is NOT politics. This is decent behavior.

3. It will have to be a big trick
if they are going to beat the repugs when they thaw out Osama and put him on center stage.

4. No, I think it was very likely one of the victims that reported him
The way it appears to me is that the person Foley was chatting with in the IMs that we saw was very creeped out by them. I think he was likely the one who talked. If I am correct then I applaud his bravery, but I sure hope he is able to live the rest of his life in peace and he doesn't have to deal with people who are angry with him for defending himself.

6. Yes.
Tim Mahoney's campaign does not deny shopping the story to the press gaggle for months. The press they approached did not have enough to go to press with just the five emails, because they had plausibly deniable motives. They could have been just a little too cozy, without clearly crossing a line.

What broke this story wide open is its publication on blogs and the subsequent release of the chat logs. With the chat log and his resignation, the game was on.

But yes, Mahoney's campaign was trying very hard to push this story, as it should have been. If you are running against an active, stalking pedophile, say so.

9. Well, there are some Floridians who are seething, to put it mildly.
They have had their share of pedophilia in the last year or so, with the girl who was kidnapped from her bedroom and buried alive, plus another that was pretty gory. The people cannot tolerate more of them popping up.

7. Nah! That Would Take Intelligence and Guts
After all, it is a citizen's duty to report crime, especially child abuse situations. And it can be done anonymously, even.

If there's anything you can count on to titillate the american psyche, it's SEX. SEX sells. If the MSM thinks it will pull ratings, we'll be subjected to it 24/7. If not, the blogs will certainly keep it going. I think it's the perception of a COVER-UP more than the actual crime that'll keep this story in the headlines. See below:

10. I don't believe the media does anything..
without the consent or at least knowledge of this administration. There is enough nasty deeds being done to fill every broadcast for a very long time. I liken this administration to firemen who like to start fires...an orchestration if you will. If something is bubbling up, and this one has been on the plate for at least a year...the time to let the fire blaze is of their choosing. I can just picture a rolodex with scandals alphebetized...so the right scandal for the right climate is only a finger tip away. When they decide to let her rip...they stand back in awe of the magical blaze they set afire.

11. Maybe that's why the Jeff Gannon story fizzled out so fast. They
have all those sexy juicy stories on file waiting for them to ooze out just the right time. However I think that's just wishful thinking.

12. wishful...

my scandal-a-rama? I don't think so. Wishful would be for me to think that there was no relationship between the government and the press. Or, that a story could not be killed.
