I think the GOP gay-haters leaked the Foley story ...
Edited on Sat Sep-30-06 05:42 AM by NVMojo
They could care less about protecting kids in DC.

Questions about his sexuality swirled beginning with his first run for Congress, when his opponent in the Republican primary sent out mailings saying Mr. Foley was gay. He was single and seemed uncommonly focused on politics. He sometimes referred to his sister, Donna, who often served as his campaign manager, as his “surrogate wife.”

In 2003, when he was considered the front-runner in a crowded primary race for the Senate seat being vacated by Bob Graham, Mr. Foley gave a news conference to condemn rumors that he was gay but refused to say whether he was. A few months later, he dropped out of the race, saying he needed to spend more time with his father, who had prostate cancer. Many believed he had left the race to avoid questions about his sexual orientation.

“There were accusations made that he was gay, and clearly that had an impact on him deciding not to run for Senate,” said Jim Kane, the chief pollster for Florida Voter, a nonpartisan polling organization. “He knew the scrutiny was clearly going to be much different once he stepped up a notch.”

Mr. Foley reportedly sent the messages to the first page in August 2005.

1. I don't think so. They covered it up.
No way would they leak this before an election.

4. Me either, which is why I don't think they are responsible for exposing
Foley.

Yeah, hard to believe they would leak it if so many were involved who covered it up and who are by the way up for re-election.
The conversation must have come from somewhere though. I thought that the kid published it but this conversation must have been saved from Foley himself (colours of the messages and the away message from the kid). So it's pretty clear that someone with access to Foley's files had to be the one who leaked it.

edit: Actually, I do now think that I'm wrong about the colours. Maybe someone who knows AIM better can clarify.

3. Not a chance.
This was pretty much a safe seat for them. They will drop their so called morals for any reason at any time. They wouldn't give up seat just to toss out someone who is gay.

6. .
It's strange but who else though? Like I said, this conversation was from Foley's point of view. Either he saved it or someone got access to it in another way.

7. GOP Gay Haters
was it 1998, when a sleazy letter was sent out to Republicans saying that the then House Speaker, Thomas Foley was gay...
There WAS a gay Foley, it now seems, but they did the smear job on the wrong person... Now when it's the RIGHT person,
they cover it up, apparently... hypocrites to the core

8. GOP Gay Haters
oops my bad.. it was 1988 that the GOPers spread rumors about Thomas Foley being gay...still it's intriguing about how their
false rumors about democrats turn out to be TRUE regarding them

The gay congressman wasn't thomas foley, but Mark Foley
The first lady who killed a man wasnt Hillary Clinton, it was Laura Bush
the politician with a black child wasn't Bill Clinton, it was Strom Thurmond

9. This is too damaging to them.
They were covering it up. It is surprising to think the GOP would give up a rubber stamp seat. I dont think they would care no matter what sleazeball is sitting in it.

12. They put party over their own homophobia
These GOP hypocrites, when not being closeted themselves, will protect their "devoted, religious" bretheren as long as they have an (R) after their name.

13. Gay and pedophile isn't the same thing
Men are sexy. Ask any woman or gay man.

Children are not sexy. They can't be, by definition - the equipment isn't there - yet.
