Freeps: "A good and decent republican candidate" will get Foley's seat

Yes, I agree. I don't get why everyone thinks it automatically goes to a democrat. A good and decent republican candidate will bring out even more support I think. If he was e-mailing a young boy with this kinky crap I am disgusted. From what I've heard and read this guy deserves what he gets. Hastert has made it clear he is glad he's gone, whatever the heck he was up to. Sicko has disgraced his name, his family, and his party. If it's all a set-up, I apologize in advance, but I kinda doubt it!!

People in that district will become very aware of what has happened and will be perfectly comfortable voting for his replacement. Those who vote straight GOP will not hurt us because votes for him in the GOP slot will go to his replacement in accordance with the law quoted above in the thread. This seat CAN REMAIN SAFE if the GOP moves NOW to replace him. People who know what is going on will vote the replacement. People who do not know what is going on and would vote straight GOP will have their votes count for the replacement. This seat can remain safe if we work hard.

His name staying on the ballot Does Not Matter. All votes for him go to his replacement. Scroll up in the thread. There is text from the law that states this. This seat CAN REMAIN SAFE if the GOP moves THIS WEEKEND to get a replacement announced and in place and then starts hitting the district hard to make sure conservative voters know there is a superior alternative to the Democrat. This is not a year to dwell on an ugly situation when there is so much at risk. Instantaneous reaction to a casualty must take place. Get a replacement in place and do not lose this seat.

Looking at what the DUmmies are saying on this story. They are of course using this as a excuse to bash ALL Republicans. Also being very careful to state that the majority of pedophiles are heterosexual. Funny, they never mention Barney Frank or the incident long ago regarding his townhouse, his boytoy, and the male prostitution service that was run from the address.

8. A question about one comment tho --
I know nothing about Florida election law, can anyone confirm Rain-Maker's freeper comment that any vote for Foley on the ballot automatically goes to his successor? That doesn't seem likely, but with Jeb running the place who can say?

13. That is the election law in Florida
The problem, of course, is that few are going to want to put their mark next to Foley's name now, and they have to spend a ton of money not only getting the new candidate out there, but getting the fact that a vote for creepy Internet predator Foley is a vote for the new candidate. Imagine the campaign ads: "Yes, Foley is a creepy Internet predator, but vote for him anyway, because a vote for Foley is really a vote for John Q Republican Candidate #2!" It's a rather thorny rhetorical problem, I should think. Ad to this that many people will not hear about the complex law, and you've got yourself a sure loser, since everybody will hear about Foley's creepy Internet predation.

Candidates usually try to hide their alcoholic uncle. The new candidate for the seat will have to openly link himself with creepy Internet predator Foley. Hell, I'd be surprised if any Republican even stands for the job.

18. This is bad election law, isn't it?
A vote for Foley is automatically a vote for whoever the GOP replaces him with? So anybody currently filling in his absentee ballot will have to take it on faith that the party will replace the man he votes for with a good candidate? Voting blind, huh? They should be forced to enter their new candidate as a write in at this stage in the game. Teach them to take more responsibility for the behavior of their "teammates." Ok..maybe that's a naive pronouncement, but it's not like Foley dropped dead. Even if he had dropped dead, voting on faith makes no sense to me. Ah, but then we are talking about Republicans, aren't we.

We've got a system in Philly where we make stamps for write in candidates (usually just the local election officials). The stamps fit the name neatly into the write-in box. Sure, it's a slight inconvenience, but the Repukes brought this one down on themselves and should bloody well have to scramble.

11. I read the entire thread.
Those guys are pissed.

Good luck getting republicans to check the ballot next to this guy's name on it, even if they know he'll be replaced.

They won't do it.

This seat is ours.

Not gonna happen. Get over yourself freepers, Tim Mahoney will be taking his seat in Jan.

15. What will not surprise me a whole lot is if he gets votes...maybe
even enough to win because most people do not pay much attention to politics.

It may sound crazy but it is true.
