Open letter to Senator Frank Lautenberg
Sen. Frank Lautenberg
Hart Senate Office Building
Suite 324
Washington, DC 20510

Dear Senator:

In the Autumn of 2002, I was seated as a member of the Cumberland County Democratic Committee. I was privileged to be seated the same night it was announced you would be coming out of retirement and seeking another term in the Senate. I wholeheartedly joined the rest of the committee in voting to endorse your decision.

Today, I regretfully must say that I have come to regret that vote, because of one vote you cast yesterday. You see, yesterday, you voted to deny me my rights as an American Citizen.

Yesterday, you voted to deny me the right of habeus corpus. You voted to deny me the right to dissent. You voted to deny me my Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Amendment guarantees of trial by jury, requirement of a warrant, representation by counsel, the right to confront my accusers, and protection against cruel and unusual punishments.

By adding your “aye” to the choir arranged by the White House, you sacrificed personal liberties and rights that were my birthright, and yours, for 791 years. You voted to gut every founding compact of our society, from the Constitution, to the Declaration of Independence, all the way back to the Magna Carta.

Senator, you abrogated your oath of office yesterday. You have made me, my family, and every citizen of this once-great nation subjects to the whims of a dictator. If I rise, as is my Constitutional right, to oppose the actions of that dictator, I can find myself secreted away in the night, held without arraignment or trial, and tortured with no legal recourse.

You, Senator, you made that possible.

Since you have abrogated your oath, today I have sworn a new one. I will expend all my energy, whether as a Committeeman or just a regular voter, to hold you accountable for your actions on the floor of the Senate. I will oppose you at every turn. I will actively support, endorse, and contribute to whomever seeks to oppose you in the primary two years from now. I will actively seek to replace you. I will not rest until I see you drummed out of the Democratic Party which, until yesterday, was the last best hope for American freedom.

Yours,
Paul L. Sungenis

1. We should send variations of this letter

2. Perhaps we can get Madame LaFarge to come out of retirement
We could set up the guillotine in Journal Square in Jersey City. But first we'd have to have a contest to propose who would serve as Executioner.

I propose that the Executioner must be "the perfect Democrat", one who has never waivered ever on a single issue. Good luck finding this person.

5. Very familiar.
My Grandmother, who got me involved in Democratic politics, was mayor of Hopewell Township for a while.

4. Well done...
I am getting ready to fax out my own version of your letter to every Dem who voted for this obscenity. They need to be hammered with this endlessly.
