My Senator voted FOR torture. In November, I will cast my vote for him in
the general election. His name is Bill Nelson. The Florida Bill Nelson. Nelson's opponent in November is Cruella DeVille.

I am SICKENED and OUTRAGED that Nelson voted in favor of torture, and I will still cast my vote for him, understanding all the while that there is NO EXCUSE for this vote.

Every day up until the election, (starting with the email I already sent today), I will write to Senator Nelson and remind him that the only reason he still has a job is because a Ned Lamont clone doesn't live here. I will remind him each and every day with an email and a phone call. I haven't been able to get through yet today because his lines have been constantly busy. I might even pay a few visits to his office, just to let the point sink in. That way, when the next primary rolls around, he will know exactly why he is out of a job.

SENATOR BILL NELSON OF FLORIDA IS ON NOTICE

He has been given a verbal warning
He has been given a written warning
The next step is DISMISSAL

I think that every other DUer who has a Senator who voted FOR TORTURE should do the same. NEVER let them forget.

6. In 2000 I lived in NH and couldn't figure out why anyone in their right
mind would live in FL. I must've lost mine.
The Cubans love Jebbie and all things Republican. Sometimes I'll ask, "Why do you support people who hate you?" and I'm given the whole Kennedy let us down B.S.
For crying out loud, THAT WAS CLOSE TO 50 YEARS AGO!!!! So yeah, your guess is as good as mine.

2. I have Tom Carper - I feel your pain
But I'd rather fight Carper (and for you Nelson) for the next 6 years than to fight the alternative. At least I know our democrats will do good in many areas that are not high profile debates at DU. I can almost guarentee that Jan Ting and Katherine Harris will vote 99.999% of the time with Bush - that is simply unacceptable in my book!

3. Hell, how do you think I feel? I'm stuck with BEN Nelson, the
only dem to vote AGAINST Habeus Corpus. He brags about being praised by bush** for his tax cut votes in his re-election commercials.

28. He's Out Because
of term limit or because he's a DINO and the voters of FL are going to find someone to go against him and win? Because if that's the case, that's very hard to do as we are seeing in CT.

I won't be voting for Ken Salazar ever again, won't do it!! He'll win without me, it will at least give me great pleasure to tell his staff, he's lost my votes forever

8. How's that going to stop the Bush Regime
with progressives opening encouraging people to not vote democratic a mere SIX weeks before the election when the only other option would enable a Republican win.

We had a primary, it's over - time to get the Republicans out of control. And for those who supported it, we'll take down names and remember them when their primary comes around again.

Your option is exactly WHY the Republicans pushed for this legisilation. They know they'll get folks like you trying to convince people that voting for democrats is wrong. Please don't be that person.

13. Thank you! I'm a progressive, but I'm not stupid. We can take care of one
thing at a time. The most urgent right now is to get a majority in Congress.

23. Sign me up for that team
Lamont showed that we can do it and we need to remember that starting Nov 8th, 2006 when we start getting ready for the 2008 elections.

I'd rather spend the next 2 years bitching and moaning about my shitty senator Tom Carper than I would dealing with the only other option for Delaware and that's a republican. At least I know that Carper gets it right on some of the key issues important to me which is more than I can say for any republican out there.

I think sometimes I'm a bit more forgiving because I've had Rick Santorum as my senator for 8 years. I wrote a complaint letter to him and he replied with a fundraiser letter. Having Tricky Rick for 8 years makes me reason that as shitty as Tom Carper gets - he's still a better option than Rick Santorum or anyone like him.

14. i gave him notice on previous failures. this time i called
and left a message as soon as i heard.

Im done with him.
neither I nor my family members or anyone else i can convince will be casting another vote for nelson. 'if he was the last democrat on earth' yes I left that on his machine and its true.

i think there is a 3rd party candidate on the ballot whom I will vote for with a clean conscience.

you can give me all the warnings about cruella winning and I have to ask you what the difference would have been? on every issue that was truly important he has voted just as she would have.

if he wins it will be without my vote

18. I'm so sorry you feel that way. I was almost there this morning myself.
I've only lived here for 3 years, so my anger with him hasn't built to the point where it can convince me that he's as evil as Cruella. I know that Bill can't do anything to change your mind, but what can I do? Seriously. I'm in Homestead. What can I do?

24. Clean Conscience

I call that enabling republicans. Sorry, we're stuck with an election system that gives just two parties the opportunity to win. Hell in Pennsylvania the republicans were paying for the Green Party to get on the ballot.

There are two options:

Vote for the democrat and vow even harder to fight to make change
Or enable the Republican to win.

Haven't you figured out this is what Republicans do - they toss a controversial bill on the floor right before the main elections because they know there are dumbasses out there who think now they have to vote 3rd party or not vote at all.

Your conscience elects republicans. I'd rather vote for the democrat that fucked up again than enable a republican to do it 100% of the time for another 6 years. I couldn't live with myself knowing that I enabled the republican party

21. That works.
My Rep was well behaved, (Mark Udall, bless him) but my Senator has another thing coming. Salazar is also on the watch list. I'm sure his office is getting mightily tired of my faxes as it is, but life sucks for them. The staff is paid to let him know how his constituents think, and a daily reminder that he is on job probation (and so are they) might be enough to get them back in line.
