Confederate Group accuses Allen of spurning heritage
It's pretty bad when Mr. Noose can't get the "Sons of Confederate Veterans" to support him. I'll also bet you dollars to donuts that those racists do not like it one bit that the good senator is part Jewish.

RICHMOND, Va. - Sen. George Allen (news, bio, voting record)'s use of the word "macaca" for a young man of Indian descent forced him to spend the past six weeks disputing claims that his past is littered with racist language and a fondness for Confederate symbols. On Thursday, the furor came full circle when the Sons of Confederate Veterans turned on Allen.

The organization criticized the Republican for saying he had been slow to grasp the pain that Old South symbols like the Confederate flag cause black people.

"The denunciation of the flag to score political points is anathema (who knew these guys knew such a big word!)to our organization," Brag Bowling, immediate past state commander of the SCV, told reporters near the state Capitol, once the Confederacy's seat of government.

Allen campaign manager Dick Wadhams said Allen stands by his comments. Full article at the link below

3. I heard this on the RW radio here in Richmond on the way home

Allen met with a group of black educators or community leaders about a month ago. This was NOT meant for the ears of the mass public ;-) it was supposed to just calm the fires....well then the Sons of Confederate Veterans decided to kick up some dust.

This was on the local news report of WRVA the BIG rightwing talk radio station in central Va. (Rush, Hannity, Savage) and the topic for the local drive time idiot.

The big local station (NBC) didn't mention this at all they did however have a report about Webb being accused of some horrible nasty racial staff back in the day. Typical. See how hard it is for a Dem to get a foot in around here? Well Warner and Kaine did so it can be done.

8. Oh yeah they have been grooming him since he was in the Gen.Assembly
It was getting hard to tell who he was claiming as his father -George Allen or Ronald Reagan seriously they had him as the second coming the heir to the Reagan crown. He and Santorum were the golden boys for the Republican party and yes that does show you how much they can rely on packaging to sell any product.

Allen was probably going to be either the nominee or on the very short list for VP.

7. "Spurning heritage"? George Allen is from California
What kind of heritage can he possibly claim in the Confederate battle flag?

I'm a southerner and well aware of the temptation toward denial when you're born with an identity associated with so much shame. Don't get me wrong; denial isn't an excuse, but it's quite a different phenomenon than hatred. I'm well aware of southern white defensiveness and denial. But, I always have my suspicions of non-Southerners who voluntarily adopt Old South symbols. Ignorance and denial are never legitimate excuses, but a rich California boy can't legitimately be believed to be ignorant or in denial. If not racism, then what, I can't imagine. He needs to explain.
