Here ya go -> Poll: Iraqis back attacks on U.S. troops
WASHINGTON - About six in 10 Iraqis say they approve of attacks on U.S.-led forces, and slightly more than that want their government to ask U.S. troops to leave within a year.

Almost four in five Iraqis say the U.S. military force in
Iraq provokes more violence than it prevents.

About 61 percent approved of the attacks — up from 47 percent in January. A solid majority of Shiite and Sunni Arabs approved of the attacks, according to the poll.

Three-fourths say they think the U.S. plans to keep military bases in Iraq permanently.

1. oh dear gawd, what have they done?
and I'm agnostic.

I recall a time when I was a wee lad, walking back from the paper route that I had just started, when I thought about the news of the night before. the USSR and the US were locked in a battle of words and threats, and I had just found a Scientific American book on MIRVs and other nuclear weapons techniques. Hey, what is a 12 yr old to do? So I read it. A lot of the technical stuff was beyond me, but SciAm writers are so clear that I caught on. And it opened my eyes to my safe little suburban world. While it remained suburban, it was no longer safe and certainly no longer a little world. I looked up a word that day - epiphany - and fully grasped its meaning.

Well, back to that morning. It happened to be a Tuesday, so they started with the air raid sirens - your standard practice drill. And the idea that we could easily blow our world up into a deadly cloud of radiation suddenly became a possible reality.

Living in Chicago, even at 12, I was already aware that most pols and leaders were crooks and bums (some things never change) and when THAT thought (that our peace and safety was totally dependent on even more professional crooks and bums who simply graduated to higher office) pierced through the air raid siren, I became very, very scared. I explained my logic to my parents, who then themselves became quiet. They merely nodded in agreement, saying little else.

For the first time since that scary air raid siren, I have returned to that feeling of dread. The Crooks and Bums in this case are a bunch of war-mongering neocons who care not one bit for our constitution - only their own power and profit. They are even less trustworthy than that Texan president who had replaced the dead guy. That same, cold feeling of dread now fills my head. We are at a cross-roads. The very survival of our society, of our nation, perhaps of civilization itself is now in the cross-hairs. Unless we stop these evil bastards, unless we stand up to the neocon congress, the ineffable senate and most of all, the White House, I submit that we are doomed.
