The name of Bernard B. Kerik has already figured in embarrassing moments for the Bush administration and for former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani.

Yesterday, Mr. Kerik’s name turned up in yet another uncomfortable place: a federal investigation that threatens to disrupt the race for state attorney general.

In a rare afternoon news break, WNBC television revealed that Jeanine F. Pirro, the former Westchester County district attorney and current Republican candidate for attorney general, was captured with Mr. Kerik last year on wiretaps discussing how Mr. Kerik might secretly record Ms. Pirro’s husband, Albert J. Pirro Jr., to catch him in a suspected affair with another woman.

The conversations took place in mid-2005, long after Mr. Kerik’s rise to fame in the months after Sept. 11, 2001, had been upended by damaging allegations that emerged after his nomination by President Bush to become the nation’s homeland security secretary.

Mr. Kerik had left Mr. Giuliani’s consulting business, Giuliani Partners, months earlier and was opening his own security firm, the Kerik Group. But he remained under investigation by the Bronx district attorney’s office, which was finding that as New York City corrections commissioner, he had accepted free renovations to his Bronx apartment from a city contractor when the company was under investigation for possible ties to organized crime.

There's a Russian Mob and a Chinese Mob, not to mention less organized gang activity. If you want to talk about just the Italian Mob, I'd use the term "mafia."

I am curious, where did you see the word "Italian" in the post.

There are plenty of non-Italian mobs & mafia.

I was pointing out the mob style behavior, Guiliani does the whole mistress deal and makes
a spectacle of himself before the circumstances of 911 launch into a new role.

Kerik, had been involved in all kinds of stuff in the past and * wants to appoint Kerik
to be an ambassador to Iraq, a DIPLOMATIC for crying out loud.

However, I saw two of the three names being Italian and if in fact you are Italian, then you understand why I get a gut reaction every time someone throws the mafia word around when non-mafioso Italians ('Pub scum or not) are invovlved. Sam Donaldson asking Geralidine Ferraro if she had mob connections based on her background back in 1984. It still makes rage come to me 22 years later.

Of course there are organized crime syndicates of all backgrounds, but lets face it: when you say 'mafia' you are talking about Italians.

12. CLARIFICATION - Please Read

If Guiliani, Kerik, Pirro or other public figures who have done questionable things in
the past, successfully get elected to office.

We will have public officials who have prevailed despite their disobedience of the law.

This is NOT about Italians or the mafia or any organized crime syndicate.

This is about criminals (even if they haven't been convicted for their crimes) achieving
high office and colluding to rob the public.

A reference to NY because, all three names are prominent NY figures.

A reference to the US because mayor G has presidential aspirations and enjoys strong
support from *.
