Kweisi Mfume and Party Unity
Last week (I think) there were a few posts about Mfume perhaps not campaigning for Cardin in Maryland's senate race.

Other threads speculated that Mfume might flip to Republican( ). Another thread or two had some story about one of Kweisi's kids attending a Steele rally (apparantly forgetting about why Mr. Sidarth was at that Allen rally).

Well here's a thread posted by our great college Dem from the University of Maryland, lhfang. It kinda tells the story of where we are today and shows a nice picture of what party unity looks like.

1. What's the latest on Michael Mfume?
Did he wake up and pull his Steele endorsement?

2. I never heard that he did
I only heard he attended a Steele rally for some unstated reason. If you have a link to something saying he did, indeed, endorse Steele, I'd live to see it.

Now, as to what the kids do as opposed to what the father does, Mfume has something like 8 or 10 kids. The likelihood that one of them dislikes his father is probably high.

At Steele Rally, All Is Not Quite What It Appears

By Matthew Mosk and John Wagner
Sunday, September 24, 2006; Page C04

U.S. Senate candidate Michael S. Steele got an endorsement last week from a guy named Mfume . It came at a rally of Democrats for Steele in Baltimore, where Steele supporters waved signs and grabbed bumper stickers that said "Steele Democrat."

No Democrats who are elected officials in Maryland showed up, and afterward they said the entire event was meant to confuse voters.

Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele collected an endorsement in the U.S. Senate race from a man named Mfume, and supporters received "Steele Democrat" signs, but the campaign said none of it was intended to confuse voters.

The Mfume endorsement? It came not from the former Democratic candidate for the seat Kweisi Mfume but from his son Michael . And those signs? Well, Steele is no Democrat.

4. Thanks
I hadn't read that.

That said, I'm not sure what to make of that little snippet. (Not blaming you .... I'm assuming that was the extent of the WaPo's reporting on this specific issue.) They just drop that one line in their report and then go on to other things.

5. That post asking about Mfume was pure troll bs....
I didn't bother to click on it for that reason. I heard Mfume in his concession speech say he was been behind Cardin all the way.
