"7-Eleven Dropping Venezuela-Backed Citgo"
Edited on Wed Sep-27-06 01:56 PM by AX10
"7-Eleven officials said Wednesday that the company's decision was partly motivated by politics.

http://my.earthlink.net/article/top?guid=20060927/4519f740_3421_1334520060927-108850391

"Citgo Petroleum Corp. is a Houston-based subsidiary of Venezuela's state-run oil company and 7-Eleven is worried that anti-American comments made by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez might prompt motorists to fill-up elsewhere.

Chavez has called President George W. Bush the devil and an alcoholic. The U.S. government has warned that Chavez is a destabilizing force in Latin America.

"Regardless of politics, we sympathize with many Americans' concern over derogatory comments about our country and its leadership recently made by Venezuela's president," said 7-Eleven spokeswoman Margaret Chabris."

I'm boycotting 7-11!

1. So much for "Free Trade".
Can't support a gas company that helps the poor yet their leader talks trash about the idiot in the White House. But it is just fine and wonderful to sell our largest ports to the king of a country that laundered money for the 9/11 attack.

6. I say bullshit. We get a lot of gas from Venezuela. Are we in such a shape
that we can say no to them? WTH? Does that mean we'll be buying more from the Saudis?

8. Venezuela gets money from us
I don't think we're really in a position to say no to them...but neither is Venezuela in much of a position to cut off the gas they sell to us. This has change some in recent years as countries like China have increased their fuel demand, but in the short term, Venezuela can't afford to not sell us gas any more than we can afford to not have the supply.

7. If I have it right, each individual 7-11 franchisee makes its own deal
with a gasoline vendor. Sometimes individual stores, sometimes groups of co-owned stores.

Good luck getting each and every one of them to sever their ties and break their contract with Citgo.

Yeah, I can see a big ol' oil painting of THAT happening....

10. I will track down who owns those 2 7-11 Citgo's I use
and let them know that is why I patronize this place.

What absolutely DISGUSTS me is especially here in Delaware, our state worked out a Deal with Venezuela to purchase low cost heating oil to be distributed to low income families. I suppose that means shit to the idiots. Similiar deals were worked out with other states here in the Northeast - I think they were all blue states

9. That was the ONLY reason I stopped at 7-11
So I could buy my gas from Citgo

Seriously, I have 2 7-11/Citgo stations near me - one at work and one by my house. I know of at least one Citgo station not associated with 7-11, I'll start going there to have my tank filled.

I'd rather support Hugo Chavez than countries that support terrorism
