Edited on Tue Sep-26-06 10:27 AM by RamboLiberal
From Email:

Elizabeth, John and Cate Edwards will be joining Oprah Winfrey this Wednesday, September 27th, to talk about the power of community that Elizabeth writes about in her new book, "Saving Graces: Finding Solace and Strength from Friends and Strangers."

You won't want to miss the amazing conversation between two remarkable women -- Elizabeth and Oprah -- as they discuss Elizabeth's book.

Click http://oneamericacommittee.com/r/2769/249979 to check your local listings and find out what time the program will be broadcast in your area.

As you may know, Elizabeth wrote "Saving Graces" as a tribute to all of the people who have helped her and sustained her during the challenges she has faced in her life. To read an excerpt from her new book, click here.

We hope you'll be able to tune in to Oprah on Wednesday.

Many thanks,

Kim Rubey,

2. We are going to watch that for sure.
They went through so much right after the strain of the election. What a shock that must have been.

4. Now there's a Gig! Kudos on getting booked on that one!
I haven't watched Oprah since Arnuld's appearance.....nor watched ABC since the 9/11 dramacrap movie....

But I'm sure that I'll be able to watch a tape of it somewhere though, knowing one will be made available.

10. It was pretty good...
The first 15 minutes or so was Oprah & Elizabeth talking about Wade's 1996 death. That was very sweet and sad.

Then John Edwards came out and talked some more about Wade's death, though not in the personal terms that Elizabeth did. He talked more about the bench that Wade's classmates had built for him and the learning lab that they started in Wade's honor.

Then Oprah had John & Elizabeth's daughter Cate, who was in the audience, come up and talk about Wade's death, how she slept in her parent's bedroom for 2 years afterward and things like that.

Then they moved on to the breast cancer, treatment, tests, etc.

The Edwards' segment wrapped up with Elizabeth counseling people on what to say when a close friend or loved one has someone die as many people don't know what to say.

The last 15 minutes weren't related to the Edwards family.

All in all, it was very sweet and sad but somewhat repetitive.

son, Wade and to what they have had to endure due to that tragic untimely loss. I read the story of how they lost their son in a newspaper account early in 2003, and the story literally made me cry. It was one of the things that got me interested in John Edwards initially. I ended up not supporting Edwards in the '04 primaries due to some other issues, but I always remember how much that story moved me.

Well, I'm glad they had a chance to share such a tragic and life altering experience with a large audience. Dealing with the death of a child is probably one of the hardest pain to have to live through.

Breast cancer ain't no picnic either. My Grandmother died of it at 52, and my mother was just pronounced cancer free after her 5 years check up. I go for my check up every year because of this. Having to deal with any cancer is a very frightening experience, and although many more women have early detection and are able to come out of it in one piece these days, it's got to be jarring.

Thanks for the review!

14. I enjoyed it - really didn't get in to politics
But this just reinforced my belief that John and Elizabeth Edwards really do get it. That they can really connect to ordinary people. I was touched that Elizabeth in facing her breast cancer still felt lucky she had John to fall back on to support her and felt for single mothers facing the same disease who had no one to fall back on and support them.

John IMHO would be a great President and Elizabeth among our finest First Ladies. I think she'd have a chance on social issues to rival Eleanor Roosevelt.

16. Perhaps Oprah is syndicated and that explains the differing networks?
Just a thought.
