Tony Snow On Bill Clinton's Fox News Interview: "He Retorts, You Decide"

NEW YORK At Monday's press gaggle, White House Press Secretary Tony Snow was the latest to weigh in on former President Bill Clinton's blistering exchanges with Chris Wallace in a Sunday interview on Fox News. Those exchanges were set off by Wallace challenging Clinton on his record of going after al-Qaeda as president.

A reporter asked Snow, who used to work at Fox, today: "Any reaction to former President Clinton's comments on what he did about Osama bin Laden, compared to what's been done -- the Fox interview, especially? He kind of implied that he'd done more than had been done the first nine months (under Bush). I wonder if there's any comment on that."

Snow answered: "Well, he retorts, you decide. "It's my view that -- well, not my view. President Clinton clearly had strong feelings, but I'm going to let -- we're just not going to engage." Snow also took the opportunity to hit what he called "conspiracy theories" about falling gas prices, which seem to have boosted the president's approval ratings.

Folks, I've said it before and I'll say it again. Having cancer DOES NOT make you a "good" person or a "bad" person. It makes you a person with cancer. Tony Snow and Laura Ingraham are living proof of this.

Tony Snow was crying for some time during his first formal briefing at the White House yesterday. Nevertheless, the panel of “Fox All Stars” on the Brit Hume show last night gave him high marks for his performance at the briefing. They are all his friends and naturally wanted him to do well, but more important, the unknown powers at the Fox network covet Snow as Press Secretary to President Bush because it gives them a 24-hour access to the Oval Office.

Even the panelists agreed that the press corps was unusually polite to Snow yesterday and that would not continue. The liberal reporters will become much more aggressive in the days and weeks to come. The only reporter who questioned Snow aggressively was the aged Helen Thomas, with whom Tony was very patient and kind as is his nature. But everyone agreed that things will not be that easy when the New York Times, the Washington Post and the rest of the media who dislike Pres. Bush get out their knives.

We'll have OUR say without them butting in then, perhaps (at least for a few nanoseconds). Although I don't kid myself that they'll let it stand...

And you are correct as can be: Having cancer does NOT make you a "good" person or a "bad" person. It makes you a person with cancer. Although you'd THINK that having to face such a huge, life-threatening crisis MIGHT help make you a better person, or at least a more compassionate one. Doesn't seem to have had taht effect with the two individuals you name. laura ingraham may have toned it down ever-so-slightly, from 100 decibels to maybe 95, but it hasn't improved her or made her more of a decent, compassionate human being - at least from what she says and the viewpoints to which she still clings. If it had had any impact at all, she might be considering changing attitudes, her politics, and her political party. Having to battle cancer ought to take you out of your selfish, stingey, mean-spirited, smug, snarky little self and focus you on larger, more lasting, and more sincerely Christ-like things.

Clinton defends himself without resorting to namecalling or vicious attacks, and he's "whining" about how it was everybody else's fault and he "attacked the guy just for asking a question" ...
