If this indeed happened, I am speechless.

BREAKING: Three college teammates say George Allen used the N-word frequently, wanted to go to a college where blacks knew their place
by John in DC - 9/24/2006 10:19:00 PM

From Salon: Three former college football teammates of Sen. George Allen say that the Virginia Republican repeatedly used an inflammatory racial epithet and demonstrated racist attitudes toward blacks during the early 1970s..........

.....>
>
> Shelton also told Salon that the future senator gave him the nickname "Wizard," because he shared a last name with Robert Shelton, who served in the 1960s as the imperial wizard of the United Klans of America, a group affiliated with the Ku Klux Klan. The radiologist said he decided earlier this year that he would go public with his concerns about Allen if a reporter ever called. About four months ago, when he heard that Allen was a possible candidate for president in 2008, Shelton began to write down some of the negative memories of his former teammate. He provided Salon excerpts of those notes last week....
>
> Shelton said he also remembers a disturbing deer hunting trip with Allen on land that was owned by the family of Billy Lanahan, a wide receiver on the team. After they had killed a deer, Shelton said he remembers Allen asking Lanahan where the local black residents lived. Shelton said Allen then drove the three of them to that neighborhood with the severed head of the deer. "He proceeded to take the doe's head and stuff it into a mailbox," Shelton said.

1. Whoa! Why am I hearing the tune from "The Dukes of Hazzard" in my head?

"Just the good ole' boys. Never meaning no harm!"

Allen is not going to do well in the fast growing communities of Northern Virginia. ;)

10. Not where I'm living
So diverse that one of the Freeps in the neighborhood has urged my wife and I to have more white Christian babies.

His wife is so nice that he's at all neighborhood functions, but he says the fucking most creepiest racist things.

He is a stupid, racist pig. I have always been mystified how he could have been elected to the Senate, much less thought of seriously as a presidential candidate.

Oh wait. We have another stupid pig and a coward as Commander in Chief. For two terms.

Never mind.

4. Well George I guess it is time to go ahead and roll out the battle flag
What could it hurt at this point?

Wait until his high school story (apologized over the PA for spraypainting "Die Whitey" on the walls) comes out.

6. He can't...

He's been outed as a "mongrel" who hid his heritage. He'll hemorrhage support from both sides now.

7. I always want to hear the other side of the story, but the 'person'
that comes through from Allen (for me) oozes a combination of snear, cockiness, disdain, meanness and something harder to describe - an assumption of importance and perfection - that he is flying on top of the world - confident in his association with a ruling party that is on a roll - a party that provides a place for his beliefs - which do appear to be bigoted - leaving him a man in my eyes who brings bigotry and appeals to bigots.

8. "My best friend is a Jew", says local KKK leader
Allen is a self-hating pathology.

11. Pretty damning, especially calling a friend "Wizard" because he
had the same last name as the KKK leader.

That's a little detail that nobody would know, if they hadn't either kept close track of the Klan and its history, OR if they'd somehow been into, or been an afficionado of, such hideous pursuits to begin with. There are two ways you follow such groups/activities: 1) if you're studying or otherwise tracking it - for an investigation or research for a thesis or something; or 2) if you're into those things, or somehow a fan of them.

The ordinary person - during the '70's - wouldn't know the name of the Grand Wizard of United Klans of America during the '60's otherwise. I couldn't tell you what the guy's name was unless I had to research it for some reason. Couldn't have done so back then, either. It just wasn't on my radar screen for any reason, nor was it for anybody with whom I hung out. It evidently WAS, for Mr. Felix.

12. Even if true, these are mere childhood indiscretions in the eyes of the
faithful true-believers: just look at what a fine man he has become at maturity.

13. Can we get a second source here?
If not, don't assert it as fact. (Though it might be nice to try to get Sen. Macaca to deny it.)
