What Bill Clinton showed the Democrats in the FOX interview
Bill Clinton did one big thing for the Democratic candidates in his interview with Chris Wallace. Every one should take note of how Bill Clinton handled himself during that interview.
In a very dignified way, Bill Clinton stood up to the right wing machine and backed it down. Of course they will not take this well and will fight back with every bit of dirt they can throw at him and all Democrats.
But what Bill Clinton did was show the Democratic Party how to play hardball with the neocons and their right wing machine with out getting in the pig pen with them.
Simply by standing up to the lies with truth and doing it in a direct manner without smearing anyone, the public will eventually see through the right wings agenda and realize they do not speak for the general public.
If every candidate would respond to the lies spread about them and Democrats in general, it would kill the right wing agenda.

19. Clinton should've started suing the RW yellow press when it cranked up in
the 90s.

At least 8 books came out between 9-11-2001 and 2005 that lied about Clinton's actions on terrorism, and he never answered a single charge they made in any public way.

So - what did Clinton teach other Democrats? That waiting five years to counterattack is a good strategy for ...................................... what?

2. I am disappointed that he hasn't really spoken out sooner
It is only when his record is attacked or his character besmirched that he responds.

Jimmy Carter hasn't hesitated.

21. Well, the Democratic Party didn't exactly help Clinton...
with the nonsense about impeachment. They stabbed him in the back. They turned their backs on his aggressive approach, no matter how much peace and prosperity it produced.

And yes, this can be attributed to Clinton trying to protect his ego. Which is why it's a shame that Gore, Kerry or Hillary Clinton didn't get mad instead. But then, they're not Big Dogs at all. What they are...naaah, someone else got in trouble using that animal reference, and I'm not gonna go there.

3. A fire hose, filled the the clear water of logic, reason, and FACTS
does a lot to clean the mud of the pigs in the pigpen. A you can hose them down while standing. rather
than roll around in the mud with them.

4. Jimmy Carter has been very vocal.
It's just too bad his voice doesn't carry the same weight as Bill's.

I only wish people would listen to Carter more. To my mind, he is the only true stateman on this planet.

5. it felt good, we all enjoyed it and it appears a public nightmare
the way all are protraying it. people, the average person is not like us and will insist on seeing hte whole things with their eyes in non bias interpretation. they will pick up what these media people are saying and that is what they will get out of that interview. not all the good nifty stuff that we see

my point is..... feels good to us. he was spot on and took wallace ass. but that is not going to be te end result from what i am hearing from other posters. (i dont watch news, so rely on what is being said)

if they end result is negative for us, no matter hw we love it, how is it a good thing

i have watched kerry and dean do this with media. then i have watched media attack them afterwards to where only a negative message is left for them

how is that good?

unfair, bullshit, wrong i agree

13. Perhaps because there's not an avalanche of us standing up and
speaking out about it - supporting Clinton.

I'm glad he did. I'm glad he did it on Pox "news." Most of it will fall on deaf ears, but I'm betting SOME will see through the smoke and mirrors, even if only a few. That'll be a few more than did before this. I'm just wondering WTF took him so damned long.

Here's my take on it...

9. True but ...

... but the question is, will Democrats learn to stand up?

What you have written here is something I (an independent voter) have repeatedly stated on this forum ad infinitum. But Dems still refuse to change and to fight back.

Just now I was listening to Air America Radio (something I rarely do) and on its present show it asked "was the Fox network fair and balanced?"

What does this mean? It means that the Dems/libs are again validating reich wingers.

The reason why I rarely listen to AAR is because each and every time I listen the show's host always allow reich wingers to talk bullshit and the host NEVER interrupts or criticizes the deluded bullshitter. Again, AAR is validating the reich wing destroy America agenda despite the fact that people like you and I have said that libs and Dems should put a stop to this bullshit.

Will Democrats ever wake up and fight back?

I am not optimistic that they will.

10. Great Interview ..
Edited on Mon Sep-25-06 07:23 AM by primative1
I commend Clinton for even bothering to show up for a Faux interview.
I was channel surfing when I caught the interview and was kind of surprised he was on Faux.
What I really wonder is .....
After the interview was over they broke to a commercial and then said they would come back with "a faux round table discussion" (circle jerk).
Did anyone actualy not change the channel at that point?

11. I defended Clinton in a LTTE and got hate mail
unsigned, of course.

But I am not deterred and I will not back down. I have made it my business to counterattack on every RW attempt to rewrite history on Bill Clinton's record on both terrorism and his economic successes. DU folks have helped me with their insights and links to info I didn't know about.

Cmon DU. Let's get out there and fight with Bill!

14. They've been the same help to me.
I come here and get an education daily.

BTW - Howard Dean gets it:

(snip)

"In an interview with Fox News televised this morning, President Bill Clinton fought back against the right-wing misinformation and smear campaign and stood up for the truth. President Clinton set the facts straight on his administration's record fighting the war on terror. He also stood up against the Fox News' right-wing bullying and propaganda machine, pointing out the lack of tough questions being posed to the current administration. Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement thanking President Clinton for standing up to right-wing propaganda and the need for all Democrats to stand up and tell the truth:

"President Clinton did exactly what Democrats need to do in this election. Democrats need to stand up to the right-wing propaganda machine and tell the truth."

15. Thank you. Was going to say the same thing
Back in 1992, when his campaign had a lot to attack, they (Carville?) replied immediately.

This is what Kerry should have done in 2004 Gore... I don't remember and, of course, the rest of them in 2008.

16. 1992 was when we really had a fair and balanced media
Edited on Mon Sep-25-06 05:25 PM by politicasista
We did not have that in 2000 and 2004. Clinton had more time to define himself than Kerry and Gore did.

We are still understimating the power of the corporate media. It is not the same media it was in 1992. If they did it to Kerry and Gore, they are going to do it to any if not all Democratic candidates in 2008.

Our enemy is the corporate media, not the Dem candidates. That's the bottom line.

17. Yes and No
Did not have Faux News and all the blogs and hate radio, but you may want to read "The Hunting of the President" by Joe Conason and Gene Lyons who detailed how even the NYT and the LAT were ready to accept and publish any sleaze gossip.. and never retracted any.

And when such were published by these publications, they gained credibility and were repeated.. as opposing to being sourced by a southern publication. Even though, according to the book, the ones who followed politics in Little Rock dismissed Gennifer Flowers who claimed meeting Clinton between 1978 and 1980 at a hotel that was not even built until 1983.

20. Don't appease the GOP! When attacked, hit back twice as hard!
As the Sean Connery character in the film The Untouchables:

If he pulls a knife, you pull a gun.

If he pulls a gun, you put him in the morgue!

23. exactly. this is exactly what i told Colleen Rowley when i met with her.
i told her that her opponent would come after her and question her patriotism over her whistleblowing on the FBI case... and i said she should attack twice as hard and explain how his supporting bush's policies have made the US less safe against terror.
