FOX News Saying “Clinton Gets Crazed”
By: Jamie Holly on Saturday, September 23rd, 2006 at 11:43 AM - PDT

Fox news is already coining the interview as "Clinton gets Crazed", and today on FOX, Chris Wallace talked about the interview.

Video - WMV Video - QT

The part of the interview they showed occurs pretty far into the interview (Transcript here), after Wallace keeps pushing Clinton on bin Laden. The interview was suppose to be a 50/50 split on the Clinton Initiative and anything else. Within about two minutes, Wallace turns to the Path to 9/11 and bin Laden. Reading from the transcript, Wallace almost seems shocked by the fact that Clinton took the issue head on and wouldn’t back down. He even asks Wallace why George Bush hasn’t been asked about his inactions in the months leading up to the September 11th attacks.

Something very interesting Clinton brings up is the fact that when he did launch operations against bin Laden, Republicans quickly questioned his motives. Arlen Specter and Dan Coats (R-IN), were two very outspoken Senators who tried to associate Clinton going after bin Laden in 1998 with the movie "Wag the Dog" and that his bombing of an al Qaeda meeting was to divert attention from the Lewisky scandal.

(Update below the fold)

After writing this, I have noticed that FOX has changed the video caption to this:

It is now a "Strong Reaction". Fortunately Think Progress took a screenshot of the original title, which was "Clinton Gets Crazed":

I wonder why they decided to change it all the sudden?

1. They don't want people to think about what Clinton said.
If they focus on tone and Clinton being "crazed" they can ignore the content of his comments.

3. It's propaganda taken to a fine art.
It's an almost subliminal level of propaganda. The words used are used much like a primer to pre-position the mind for maximum effect.

5. He has a right to be.
Regardless of your opinion of Bill, when you attack the Big Dog directly, he will fight. That dog will hunt if you make him.

7. I remember his response to a news person at his library...
Remember that sit-down interview inside the library with some network person (I forget who it was) -- and how Clinton took him to task for the way the network reported stories about him?

9. The late Peter Jennings...
Clinton to ABC News: It's payback time

The former president chastises Peter Jennings for ABC's "sleazy" coverage of Whitewater -- and he's right.

November 23, 2004 | President Clinton's prime-time interview with ABC on Nov. 18, in conjunction with the opening of the Clinton presidential library, was for the most part a feel-good, nostalgic affair, as Clinton looked back on his presidency with ABC anchor Peter Jennings. But Clinton flashed real irritation when Jennings suggested some historians thought that Clinton's presidency had lacked "moral authority," without mentioning its having been tarnished by independent counsel Kenneth Starr's multiple investigations.

"You don't want to go here, Peter," snapped Clinton, who proceeded to criticize the reporting of ABC News, in particular, in the 1990s. "Not after what you people did and the way you, your network, what you did with Kenneth Starr. The way your people repeated every little sleazy thing he leaked. No one has any idea what that's like."

In truth, Clinton's criticism of the media's overheated and often conspiratorial scandal coverage could be applied to a host of mainstream news operations. But it was fitting that the comment was directed at ABC, which occupied a unique role amid the seven-year, $70 million media feeding frenzy surrounding Starr's probes. At times ABC, led by reporter Jackie Judd and producer Chris Vlasto, seemed to act as the broadcast counterparts to the print reporters relying on news from the Office of the Independent Counsel -- making an early investment in the Whitewater story and determined to see it pay off.

"Jackie Judd and I are proud of the work we did," Vlasto told Salon in an interview. "It's unfortunate feels that way, and I don't want to relive the history. But we did a lot of stories over a lot of years and our stories speak for themselves. They have stood the test of time."

10. Hannity does this, O'Reilly does this...
...the "bait and switch."

Only the Dawg knows for sure why he went on Fox News Sunday. In the context of the interview, he says a number of times that he was there to discuss his Global Initiative. On the other hand, a few days earlier he said he was sick of Karl Rove's bullshit, which begs the question "Why did he believe that he could be interviewed by Fox without going through Karl Rove's bullshit?" Maybe he simply thought they'd respect a former President. I don't have an answer for you.

15. The bright side of the coin is....
...that the only people who give a tinker's damn about what anybody on FOX says are the Pavlovian Dogs who actually believe the propaganda they broadcast. These people already hate Clinton and blame him for everything from 9-11 to Pearl Harbor. Their opinions and beliefs are so out of touch with reality that what they think shouldn't matter to anyone with enough sense to see Bush for what he is. These people are going to vote for Republicans in droves, and there's not a thing anyone can do about it. So basically, who gives a crap about what FOX says about anything?
