I'm pretty sure Harold Ford is going to win this race.

1. Well VA is less Republican than TN
And Kaine had Warner's coattails. I think that Ford has a good shot mainly because Corker is imploding, although I'm concerned that race will be used against him in terms of voters making up their minds (I'm not racist for pointing this out, but in a state that was part of the old Confederacy, it's not a stretch to ask.)

3. Unfortunately...
Polls are unreliable when one candidate is black (or hispanic, female, jewish, etc). Especially in the South. People are reluctant to show a pollster how bigoted they are, but in the privacy of the voting booth, it's often another story.

I suppose there's good news in that Ford's numbers are trending up. I wouldn't think that would be affacted by race. I just hope they'll continue far enough by election day.

Otoh, it may not really matter, because the mid-terms are all about turn-out. There will be some KKK-types who will break down doors to vote against a black man, but I would HOPE they'd be offset by the number of black Tennesseeans (is that what they're called? ...hey, I grew up in GA, so what do I know?) who will be likewise motivated by the opportunity to vote FOR one.

4. I'm in Tennessee and, like everywhere, there are some racists here.
However, after hearing Harold Ford, Jr., there are many Republicans who are impressed.

So, it may be a net wash.

Let's face it. Gender is a factor, race is a factor, age is a factor, religion is a factor, etc.
