Maryland governor (R!) demanding paper ballots only?!?!?
Just heard this on Lou Dobbs. Apparently he wants to scrap Diebold this election! :wow:

2. Not all Republicans are bad people.
Plenty of them give a real damn about America too.

Or it's an election ploy. Kinda hard to tell right now. :tinfoilhat: :D

Still, Maylandians should look up his record for consistency and have him explain himself as needed. To vote for him solely on this one issue is loopy in the extreme.

5. Don't even know if he's running this year.
He's taking on the Secretary of State, who wants to keep the abominations. Sure hope we can count on an honest election in MD anyway.

11. this whole electronic voting fiasco was introduced during the last dem gov
tenure. Slowly the counties starting shifting to the voting machines. It's also up to the counties which type of equipment they use....it's pretty much like that everywhere in the US. I'm not surprised a republican minority in an all blue state, might be nervous about electronic voting...same way we feel in a repub majority state.

3. It is a good idea
Better to change before everyone figures out that Bush didn't win in 2004.
We lost our democracy here to fight for it over there.

4. There's a whole big, long, sordid back story on this ......
.... that starts with DEMOCRAT Linda Lamone, our elections chief, buying the fucking machines in the first place. And our House passing a paper bill that our Senate sat on cuz Governor Nazi Bob Ehrlich was against it.

7. Was she the one I saw arguing with the gov. on Dobbs?
That idiot was insisting that there isn't any problem with the machines! (Thought she was the Sec. of State.)

10. I didn't see Dobbs' show, so I can't say for sure but ....
... here's her mug shot.

She's the Adminstrator of the Maryland State Board of Elections. As far as elections in Maryland go, she's Ken Blackwell's and Katharine Harris' counterpart.

6. a true conservative position
If we're dealing with a nation of conservatives gone insane, then
when they return to earth, they will balance the books,
cut the galavanting about in asia, and cut all the corporate subsidies
to make it break even, military be damned.

That is a true small "c" conservative position, less is more,
end the drugs war and let drugs users their private business,
turn gunshops to garden centers and gunranges to public gardens.

A conservative is no threat to anyone by their intelligence,
not to interfere in business that is better left to free indivdiuals
empowered by their membership in a peaceful society who's surplus
daily makes the world better, a place with less suffering.

.. notice how we're not dealing with conservatives here.

But that said, are "we" to declare ourselves conseravtives, ones
who like state medical, but who desire as well, the conservative
pleasure of walking anywhere in the country, enjoying that there
is no threat of violence or attack in the streets, that goodwill is
shared in our community and it all was worth something.

this kind of conservative wants to count every vote fairly as well,
and its ok to have a conservative heart, believing in a lighter touch,
and in manifestation, the progressives have a lighter touch...
but the rhetoric will be lifted and stolen by the conservatives as they
desperately uplift the only commonsense rhetoric from their enemy.

8. Democrats control the votes in Maryland
The Republican governor fears that Democrats will fix the Diebold machines the same way Republicans do in Florida and Ohio. Until we make a verifiable paper trail mandatory in all elections by law, these obscene vote-stealing abuses will continue across the country.
