Bernie Sanders supports pedophiles
and other damnable lies brought to you by Vermont's richest citizen, (he really lives in a 9 million dollar Florida mansion) that nincompoop Richie "Rich" Tarrant. The creep has spent 4 1/2 million bucks trying to buy a Senate seat in Vermont. He has been running the nastiest campaign ever seen in the state, but by insinuating that Bernie's on the side of drug dealers and pedophiles, he's not only stepped over the line, he's fucking dashed across it. If you live in Vermont, northeastern NY, or NH, you can't escape these charming little missives. They're in your mail, on the radio, and plastered all over local TV.

And they're pissing off Vermonters. Not just us liberals, but even here in the most conservative part of the state, Richie is pissing people off. Bernie signs outnumber Tarrant signs about 5 to 1. It's like Tarrant's telling us all that we're idiots for having voted for Bernie for years.

If it weren't for the endless, nauseating ads, it would be just another slightly wacky Vermont race, but it's hard to be amused in the midst of a flurry of revolting lies.

I can't wait till November. With any luck at all, after he gets whomped by Bernie, Mr. Tarrant will fold his 6'4" frame into his Bentley and drive right out of the Green Mountain state. Can't happen to soon.

End rant.

1. American Research Group only has Bernie up by 15%

Sanders Tarrant
55% 40%

Tarrant is gaining because he grabbed a chunk of the undecideds. Also, who is Diamondstone?

...Also, why the hell is the Congressional race so close? Why is Welch only beating Rainville by three points? What the hell is going on in Vermont?

I'm hoping that Bernie wins, but I'm concerned about Tarrant's warchest.

2. Bernie Leads Tarrant 66-27; Tarrant Smear Campaign Backfiring
This from www.bernie.org

September 18th, 2006

A new poll of Vermont voters confirms that Congressman Bernie Sanders maintains an overwhelming lead over Republican Rich Tarrant by a margin of 66 to 27.

The poll also shows that a growing majority of Vermonters believe that Republican Rich Tarrant is running an unfair, negative campaign and 54% of Vermonters now have a negative view of Tarrant.

On hearing the news, Jeff Weaver, campaign manager for Sanders for Senate, said, “Republican Rich Tarrant’s desperate, negative campaign is completely backfiring. Vermonters are rightly appalled by Rich Tarrant’s dishonest smear tactics and their support for Congressman Bernie Sanders remains very, very strong. Vermonters know that all of Rich Tarrant’s mudslinging won’t solve the very serious problems our country faces. They want someone like Bernie Sanders, who has the experience and honesty to stand up for them in the United States Senate.

3. I can't find the article
What polling firm conducted it, and when was it taken? That margain is more believable than ARG's, but Sanders is still leading by a good margain in both polls.

4. Peter Diamondstone is Vermont's
own Harold Stassen, but nuttier. He's been running and losing for statewide office for nearly forty years.

Don't worry about Sanders. He'll cream Revoltin' Richie.

As regards the Congressional race. Martha Rainville is a better known figure than Peter. Peter is long time pol, but until a couple of years ago, he was out of politics for several years. He has run and lost for statewide office a couple of times. He's a good progressive dem, and will probably pull it out this time. Rainville is moderate- pro-choice, and takes every opportunity to cast herself as a repub reformer and independent, but she's wearing thin, and making some obvious gaffes.

5. Is he an independent?
Or does the Green Party actually exist up in Vermont? I can't imagine him pulling even 1% away from Bernie Sanders.

8. The progs are far more successful
here than the greens. They have several seats in the state leg. And Diamondstone is no threat to Bernie.

6. Tarrant's campaign has been truly despicable and to add
insult to injury he tries to compare himself to George Aiken. Tarrant might take note that George Aiken's last campaign cost all of $17.50. As for Peter Diamondstone, I think he runs on the Liberty Union ticket. He's a colorful character who, as far as I know, has never won anything.

9. Yes, I remeber Aiken commenting on the cost of his campaign
Edited on Thu Sep-21-06 05:01 PM by Jack Rabbit
He said the price of postage went up and that's why it cost him more to send out his campaign mailer than it did six years earlier.

On the other hand, it was noted in his last campaign he got more bang for his buck: in addition to the GOP nomination, he also got the Democratic nomination.

12. Also, if Richie Rich is comparing himself to Aiken
Does that mean in the unlikely event that he wins, he'll go to Washington and tell the Frat Boy to declare victory and get out of Iraq?

11. That's because
Tarrant is a liar and a thief, not to mention a crass opportunist. I don't normally hate our state politicians, but this creep has really gotten under my skin. Tarrant was on the board of Fletcher Allen Hospital when all the illegal shit went down. He's a buffoon.

13. The newest ad-
one I saw last night insinuates that Bernie is against rape victims and pro-rapist, so I just had to kick this up. Really, this is getting out of hand. I'm furious.

14. what a sack of pure vile horseshit Tarrant is
I saw the disgusting ads while in Montreal a few weeks ago on WCAX3 (CBS)
People in Canada even found the ads revolting--and they don't even have a horse in the race. I talked to a few people up there who thought the US had gone completely insane and worried the US was heading toward the trasheap of history--(that's just next to the trailer park of family values)...to give you an idea of how increadibly averse the reaction was to these ads.

Rich Tarrant isn't just pissing off Vermonters, he's giving America a bad name--so by extension are all republicans...and that is the saddest thing of all.

15. Ain't that the truth.
Really, these ads are astonishing, and it's not that they're revolting just by Vermont standards. It's true that Vermont elections are generally pretty civil, but these ads are among some of the worst I've seen in any election anywhere in this country. Bernie is not counterattacking. He's running a series of very sweet, honest ads, featuring real Vermonters, (and Willie Nelson). Sometimes I wonder if he shouldn't be hitting back a little harder, though he has run one ad which states that Tarrant is distorting his record.

I really detest that sob, Tarrant, and I really resent his injection of fear-mongering lies into VT politics. If more DUers actually saw these ads, I can't imagine that they'd be anything but appalled.

16. On a lighter note
Just think about all that money the dip shit is pouring into the Vermont economy. He doesn't have a chance in hell.
I had the distinct pleasure of refusing to shake his hand a few weeks back. I woulndn't even let him make an excuse for me. I let him know clearly I had too much respect for myself to be tainted by a polite handshake with a scumbag.

17. Congratulations
on refusing to shake Tarrant's hand! And thanks for interjecting the lighter note. Unfortunately, I'm so pissed at what he's doing that I'm having trouble seeing the 'lighter side'.
