Democrats Take A Break From Criticizing President Bush To Defend Him

(CBS) It’s rare to hear Congressional Democrats coming to the rescue of President George W. Bush. But a day after Venezuela's president called Mr. Bush a "devil" in front of the United Nations General Assembly, several prominent Bush critics are siding with the White House.

Bill Clinton warns against wide torture approval

By Randall Mikkelsen

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Former U.S. President Bill Clinton joined a chorus of critics of Bush administration proposals for the treatment of suspected terrorists, saying they would give broad approval to torture.

Winguts:

Now if they could only apply the same standard to their own comments and to those of their friends on the left.

The Democrats realized that Chavez's rhetoric sounded much like their own and that this put them in worse than usual company. Basically, they're trying to distance themselves from... themselves.

7. chavez is a plague
he is a self-promoter that would be bashing our country even if a clone of himself was president. Brewing anti-american sentiment isn't doing me or anyone else in the world other than chavez. He should sit down and shut his mouth.

Opposition to one's POV is handled with epithets of "down with the DLC" whether it applies or not.

The dis/misinformation on these boards is breathtaking.

6. Funny how 'SlickWilly' was so popular in the 90s
.. as well as Ann Coulter calling Prz. Clinton a 'rapist' on Bill Maher's show.

And considering she recently said she thought Gore was a fag....

... seems a bit hypocritical of the wingnuts.

9. This is a good political maneuver
It completely undercuts republican attempts to brand Democrats as disloyal traitors. This helps kick another leg out from under the republicans re-election strategy.

13. Agree. I don't understand why so many DUers embrace
Chavez, and Ahmedinijad, and Nassrallah and Castro, just Becca they dislike Bush.

And I don't understand why so many DUers do not realize that embracing these "thugs" will scare many voters who do consider themselves "patriots," are "proud to be Americans" and support, at least, the office of the "President of the United States."

Read this excellent post from onenote

who support leaders working against the deadly corporate capitalist menace of the west.

I support Castro (or more accurately the Cuban people's desire to remain Socialist that he represents) and Hugo Chavez' valiant work towards a new paradigm of cooperation and caring for all of the people of Earth (not just the rich and powerful).

I don't support Ahmedinijad, he's a tool of the Ayatollahs.

As for Nassrallah, I support the Palestinian and Lebanese people and their right to chart their own democratic course. Do you have a problem with democracy?

I don't support corporate capitalist pirates or their lackeys in the repuke and dem parties.

But it seems Bill has a problem with Chavez using language of Latin America. I guess he prefers the polite-speak of the Beltway. Chavez is not into that.

15. Clinton was great!
I don't agree with Clinton's solutions for Latin America (more failed neolib globalism), but his response on Larry King was better than the knee-jerk "defend the king" response we got from Pelosi and Rangel.

Clinton has class!

14. Democrats should be impeaching the tyrannical sonofabitch
instead of "defending" the man that has trampled on the Constitution and that will go down in history as the biggest mass murderer in American history.

16. Well, you need a MAJORITY to impeach a President.
And, I highly doubt Bush will catch Lyndon Johnson or Richard Nixon.

18. Can we get to be a majority first.....
cause that's how it's gotto work.

This reminds me of a story about two brothers cussing each other out and fighting in the middle of the street....
and then in comes this other dude, who jumps in and tries to help the littlest brother.

The two brothers stop fighting immediately, look at each other, then looks at the "good samaritan"

and then the littlest brother says...."hey that's my brother you're beating on....cut that shit out, before I kick your ass!".....and whomps the "helpful" one with a right hook to the eye.

The guy wanting to help walks away rubbing his eyes saying, "hey, you looked like you needed some help to me!"

The younger brother looks at him weirdly and says...."hey, this is a family affair! I don't need you your fucking help for this, I can handle it!".

As the guy walks away.....the smaller brother hits the bigger brother in the arm...and they start fighting again.
