Meme Control : Democrats have a Diversity of Ideas -- NOT "No Ideas"
Edited on Thu Sep-21-06 11:14 AM by Armstead
The Media/GOP and some of us (me included) too often whine that the Democrats "have no ideas to present."

This is stated as a problem, and a sign of disorganization and chaos. It's Rovian.

Wellll, IMO the Democratic politicians and strategists can and should turn this to their advantage.

"You want real democracy again? Vote Democratic."

(I realize what I am about to say may strike some as unrealistic. I would agree that this is more the way things Should be. But it is also what is truly at the core of the difference between our side that the GOP. And we're talking politics and marketing here, so a little slack is required.)

The Democrats don't havw a shortage of ideas. Just the opposite. They have a surplus of ideas. That's because the Democrats are the Party of Democratic Diversity. The GOP is the Party of Lock Step Authoritarianism.

A party like the GOP that only has One Idea on an issue is a party of repression and rigidity. It is the equivalent of only having a choice between Pepsi and Coke.

The Democrats are -- and have always been -- the party of true Democracy, because it is the party of Diversity. Democrats actually think for themselves. And they represent a nation that thinks for itself. Democrats represent ,many different interests, just as America is made up of many diofferent interests.

That's a positive thing, because it maximizes the input to come up with real solutions. Even the fights and divisions are ultimately a sign of the interplay of real democracy.

The GOP is unified to a fault. They march in lockstep to the beat of their leaders -- Even when their leaders are leading the nation off the cliff.

IMO that's what Democrats should start saying constantly between now and Nov. Hammer home that it is a strength of the Democratic Party that it allows room for debate and independent thought. That, after all, is what America is supposed to be about.

2. Media ignorance is a given
I just think we ought to make it easier to overcome it.

3. I agree. I think we can do that by saying google the democratic platform
etc. I think it's good to say we have diverse ideas, but we have to show that we come together on them as well.

4. I'll go with that.
My point is that the good old Democratic Party has always been diverse, but agreed on core principles. That's a strength, not a weakness.
