Prominent republican calls appointment process unconstitutional
LEE COUNTY: A prominent Lee County Republican pulls out of the running for a state house seat and resigns his position with the party. Shawn Seliger said last week he was interested in the seat being vacated by Jeff Kottcamp, but Wednesday he changed his mind saying the selection process is unconstitutional.

Kottcamp gave up the District 74 seat to run for Lieutenant Governor.

His replacement will be selected Friday by a committee of republicans. The appointee will serve the final 2 years of Kottcamp’s term in Tallahassee.

"I’ve never quite seen an appointment process like this before," said Seliger.

Seliger is calling for a special election to be held and is so upset by the process he even resigned his position as Vice Chair of the Lee County Republican Party.
