Bible Study classes inside the Green Zone
Edited on Wed Sep-20-06 05:01 PM by partylessinOhio
Just being discussed on Hardball with journalist, Rajiv Chandrasekaran, who wrote "Inside Iraq's Green Zone."

What is going on over there? Seven square miles of hotdogs, hamburgers, bacon, pork, women jogging in shorts, movies, bars, nightlife.

Correction the book title is "Imperial Life in the Emerald City." I guess Tweety's topic was "Inside Iraq's Green Zone."

2. The Green Zone has been one giant GOP shopping mall of corruption
(with the exception of the troops, I mean). But what exactly is the problem with Bible study classes taking place inside the Green Zone?

3. It rubs me the wrong way, OK?
I like to keep war and religion separate like church and state.

Iraq doesn't follow the Bible and they do not eat pork or drink liquor in bars or have women in the streets in shorts. Why is * shoving all this at them?

We need to get out of there and let Iraq have their country back.

4. Can you be more specific?
Are Iraqis, non-Christians, non-observants, etc. being directed to attend Bible study classes in the Green Zone? If they are, that would be ridiculous. Is that the situation, or are there simply some people holding their own Bible study classes?

5. Amen
It just adds to the perception that this is a religious Crusade. It is bad enough that it is an illegal war of choice for oil theft...adding the religious angle adds fuel to the fire in a way that cannot be exaggerated in the region.

Hope they got the Saigon choppers warmed up.

6. It may rub you the wrong way, but frankly if it was my ass getting shot at

I would probably find religion too. Face it, these folks are under a ton of stress from all sides, and if you don't want to see a bunch of them go bat shit crazy a la Mi Lei massacre, you've got to give them something in order to relieve stress and calm their psyche. Some of the troops find it in alcohol, some in sex, and some in religion. To each their own, I have no problem with this:shrug:

Oh, and just a little cultural knowledge for you. There is indeed a Christian community in Iraq, albeit they're in the minority. Also, before the war, Iraq was a secular state, and didn't restrict womens' dress, including shorts.
