Gas prices dropping? It's NOT because of the Republicans...
Hear me out here, please. This is a stab at water-cooler politics.

It's tempting to think that the powers that be in Big Oil are manipulating gas prices to help ensure Republicans take Congress again.

I'm betting that they are, in fact.

But if we do this, it may backfire on us very, very badly and in the long term as well.

People will think it might be worth it to vote R just this once to save what's left of their paychecks. Not everyone we meet is a political wonk like we are; most are busy with families, school, the second job, their kid in Iraq/Afghanistan, etc.

And, if the tactic works this time, what's to stop other Big Biz from jumping on the bandwagon?

Don't credit or blame the Repugs--or even KKKarl Rove--just rest the credit/blame solely on Big Oil and go back to pinning responsibility on the BushBot enablers for all the quazillion things they truly are responsible for doing.

Yes, I don't think the big oil companies will be doing too much (or at least AS MUCH) raping and pillaging anymore once we have a dem congress.

14. I tried to explain this to a * devotee at dinner tonight and he
doesn't see a connection between lower prices and the election. Amazing.

3. I have been thinking the same thing
They know that they're in for some SERIOUS investigations if the Dems get subpeona power.

I just put stickers on gas pumps that say "After the election it will be $3.00 again."

It's small but effective.

5. The Saudis understand how important keeping the GOP in power is.
The Saudis will do what they need to in order to keep the GOP running Congress.

6. Looks like somebody built a lot of refineries all of a sudden.
There MUST be a lot of new refineries, because the reason for spikes in gas prices is always because there aren't enough refineries.

Now that gas prices are dropping, without being influenced by Rove and the GOP, that can only mean that there are plenty of refineries all of a sudden. Hooray!

But when big oil decides it's safe to push prices back up, those new refineries are going to dematerialize like our hopes for world peace and justice.

Everyone with a lick of sense KNOWS what's going on here, but the only groups that won't admit it are the GOP and the MSM.

7. Oil prices are dropping because the world economy is slowing
Demand for oil is dropping because the world economy, led by the U.S. is slowing down.

You don't go from a 5.6% growth in one quarter to a 2.7% in the next without a drop-off in the demand for energy resources.

8. Repubs helped gas prices go up so big oil has windfall profits...
Now they are coming down due to valiant efforts of
democratic members of congress.

11. Impossible
Oil would have to go to around $18-$19 a barrel.

That's what it would take to get gas prices down to $1.15 a gallon.

Unless there's a worldwide recession and demand falls through the floor (which would change the recession into a depression), it'll never happen.

13. What was the price of oil at the time?
It sure as hell wasn't in the $60 a barrel range. It was in the $18-$19 range as I said, and you can find by looking it up.

With the growing economies in India, China (especially China) and other Asian countries, oil will never get below $50 a barrel.

It would take oil to drop under $20 before you'll see gasoline prices anywhere near $1.15 a gallon.

16. It's a watercooler campaign strategy, DU, not to be taken as fact
or educated research.

I thought I made that clear in the opening of the message, maybe (likely) not.
