AP: House Passes Voter ID Bill
House Passes Voter ID Bill

By JIM ABRAMS, Associated Press Writer

Wednesday, September 20, 2006

(09-20) 13:56 PDT WASHINGTON, (AP) --

The House voted Wednesday to require Americans to show proof of citizenship
in order to vote, and the Senate moved to build a 700-mile fence along the
Mexican border as Republicans sharpened attacks on illegal immigration
before the midterm elections.

The 228-196 House vote on a new photo ID plan and the Senate's consideration
of the fence were both part of a get-tough policy on illegal immigrants that
Republicans have embraced after Congress' failure to agree on broader
legislation that would set a path for undocumented workers to attain citizenship.

House GOP leaders have insisted that tighter borders and tougher laws must
precede more comprehensive immigration changes. The House passed the fence bill
last week and plans votes Thursday on other enforcement measures: to increase
penalties for people building tunnels under the border, make it easier to detain
and deport immigrant gang members and criminals and clarify the ability of state
and local authorities to detain illegal immigrants.

5. What troubles me is that this requirement "to vote" will MORPH
into requiring everyone to have "A Government ID Card." :(

IMO, this is just another large step toward our path to a totalitarian government. :grr:

2. Does this apply only when you're registering to vote or
will you have to show proof everytime you vote?

6. I don't know about this November, but in 2008, what you have will NOT
Edited on Wed Sep-20-06 04:36 PM by ShortnFiery
suffice. You will have to either apply, have processed and receive back a VALID Passport or you will have to apply to Bushlier's Fatherland Security for receipt of a coveted, "USA Government Identification Card." :scared: :(

You're "Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA)," "USA Birth Certificate", "Social Security Card", or "Naturalization Paperwork" - do NOT inherently contain *A Photo Identification* Herr Amerikkkan Patriot!

It will SOON be mandatory that we *all SUBMIT* to applying for A Government ID Card ... yeah, whether you have a valid Passport or not." :puke:

Just another insult to individual civil liberties ... chip chip chip.

8. We both have US Passports, his expires in 2009 and mine expires in
2011. However, depending on the outcome of November's elections, we might not be living in the US by the time 2008 rolls around.

I'd just like to find out how our congressman, Dan Lipinski (DINO), IL 3rd voted on this bill. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he voted for it. He's scum....

10. Well, I'm glad that you and yours are covered via Passports
My Passport is outdated. I'd have to start the process all over again but I'd rather do that then apply for herr Fatherland's super duper Government Identification Card. That sounds so Orwellian. :(

Thanks for explaining the situation. I may ask my best friend, who is a French Citizen - if our family can come and visit (for the duration of the USA Police State). ;) :hi:
