Woo Hoo!!! Deval Patrick wins Boston gubanatorial primary!!!
Deval Patrick wins easily
Patrick won the Democratic Party's nomination for governor tonight, becoming the first African American to win a major party's nomination for the top job in the state.

5. Interesting contrast with Republican approach
When Republicans run a Black candidate, that's all they can talk about - "Look look look!!! We got us a black candidate. Aren't we somethin'?!"

On the other hand, the Dems just run candidates around the country - some white, some black, some others, and don't make a big deal about it. They just do it as a matter of course.

Interesting.

2. Happy Kind of.
Deval Patrick is certainly a Liberal's liberal with all the charisma and character to be a great leader, however, I have to say I voted for Gabrieli. When Heally attacked Gab. earlier this week I thought it was a sign she thought he was the most formidable candidate to contend with. In any case I just hope Dems can take the majority of Governorships this year for the first time since 1994.

3. from a Patrick supporter
wow!! a first post on DU ... welcome, hurricaneric !!

i worked for Patrick and strongly supported him ... i want to tell you, however, that i also liked Gabrieli's message ...

Patrick would be well served to find a role for Gabrieli in his administration ... he'd make a great saleman to support the growth of new startups, create jobs and link commerce with the State's extensive higher ed system ...

4. Thanks for the welcome.
Agreed. I fully support Patrick and will say so from now until November and it would be a smart move to get Gabrieli into his administration once elected (hopefully). Mass. sure does need more jobs and more affordable housing and a Democrat is the only we have to bring those two things about. Reps. have had 16 years and still didn't come through.

13. Also from a Gabrieli voter...
Gabrieli showed a lot of poise in his concession speech, and I hope we'll see him running again for office in MA.

As a non-fan of Barack Obama's, ever since his awful anti Separation of Church and State speech, I cringe a bit at Patrick's active association with the silver-tongued Senator from Illinois. Nonetheless, he can count on me as an enthusiastic supporter, now that he has bested Gabrieli for the nomination.

Healy's victory speech put the repugnant into Republican. She's a nasty, cheapshot creep, and she's clearly going to run a super-vicious campaign -- I hope Deval is ready to go right at her. It's time that the ultimate Democratic state stop this string of Republican governors.

17. Healy is not at all liked in her hometown of Beverly.
She will lose the North Shore. She lost every election she ever ran for (except the one with Mittens)

18. Well, this was a little scary...
I had dinner with a few so-called liberals a couple of weeks ago, and some of them were favorably inclined toward Healey.

Combine that unearned goodwill with a campaign that will blame Deval for everything from the Hindenburg to leaving Pedro in too long, and it's going to take a very sturdy job by Patrick and company to pull this off. At least he's got a good, Irish name!

26. If Tom Reilly had won, I "may" have voted for her.
Actually, I would have voted for Mihos first, then "maybe her and then Reilly.
Luckily, I don't have to exercise that option now.

27. It's all about the benjamins
Gabrieli had a fortune to spend...Healy has her husband's fortune to spend. I predict she will attempt to bury Patrick with money, and Gabrieli was the one Dem. contender who could effectively fight back against that strategy.

I was pleased by the primary, I think any of the three Dems would make an excellent governor and put up a good fight against Healy. I gotta get my Deval Patrick bumper sticker...

6. The Bluebird of happiness flies again!
First things first. Congratulations Deval, Please remain the same, come out swinging and don't fall for any of the dirty underhanded republican bait that will undoubtedly come your way! Kill them with your thoughtful debate and intelligence. Times they are achangin! For the past 6 years, lt seems as though this country has been trained never to use the very rights we have earned. Katie Couric even seems to think that it is a privilege to be able to voice your own opinion. She is supposed to be educated! It is actually our right and our duty to keep freedom of speech our right. I have been down so long and feeling so astonished that there are actually people who would actually fall for the crap of the red beast that has somehow bowled people over. Go all the way Deval and bowl over Healey! Help America to win back its' honor, respect, and pride. Help stop the big red machine that has polluted this state and country!:kick: :woohoo: :yourock:

19. I just found out that the King of Thailand is from Cambridge
http://www.thailink.com/ktbf/index.htm

I admit that, until yesterday, all I knew about Thailand was Chicken Rad Na, Yul Brenner, Murray Head, and, of course, twins.

I used to live in Cambridge, too, so now I feel so... royal. A royal what, I leave to the beholder.

Woo hoo, that is, as they say, not nothing.

Congratulations to Deval and Diane Patrick. Now, let's unite behind Deval and keep Kerry Healey from the Corner Office in November.

I am so happy. Only 5 1/2 hours standing with signs today, but we took all 4 precincts in my town! (I did phone calls at the other times.)

Woo Hoo!

24. When I was a kid I thought Boston WAS Massachusetts
We used to visit my grandparents in Boston and for the longest time any trip to Massachusetts was to "Boston", regardless of where in the state we were going.

My father had a cartoon map of "A Bostonian's Look at the World". The center of the universe was Boston and everything else was miniscule.

25. Funny. Sad, but true. Everyone does the same thing.
Ask just about anyone where they are from and they say "Boston." Ask them what part and they say "Woburn" or Billerica" Ah, strange indeed.
