Lieberman Stresses Dire Threat of Terrorism

By JENNIFER MEDINA
Published: September 16, 2006

FAIRFIELD, Conn., Sept. 15 — Under attack for his support of the war in Iraq, Senator Joseph I. Lieberman gave a 25-minute national security speech Friday without ever mentioning that conflict, instead arguing that the broad threat of international terrorism demands a continued aggressive stance. He said Osama bin Laden was “free and fomenting hatred against the United States.”

“We must stay alert and engage in this war against the barbarians, because that is what they are: modern barbarians at our gates,” Mr. Lieberman said before an audience of about 200 here at Fairfield University. “Our enemies are patient and purposeful. They are ruthless. They are lethal.”

It was Mr. Lieberman’s first major speech since he was defeated in the Democratic primary last month, and aides said it was intended to be a policy update rather than a political statement. A Democrat now running as an independent, Mr. Lieberman criticized both major parties, highlighting his odd political position now.

<<snip>>

But Mr. Lieberman, who is trying to strike a careful balance as he seeks Republican and unaffiliated votes in November, also criticized some of the president’s detractors.

“It is wrong for some on the left who go beyond dissent and demonize the president and impugn the motives of all those who support him,” Mr. Lieberman said. “Like it or not, we are in this war against terror, and we are in it together.”

2. I have no real objections to that,
but I'd ask Mr. L there if he thinks we should find and interrogate bin Laden's family. No doubt they reach out and touch someone, or at least have a friends'n'family plan... :7

3. Hey, Holy Joe!
Go the hell back home and SHUT THE FUCK UP, willya? Nobody gives a shit about what you have to say anymore.

And I don't give a good goddamn WHAT you say, I am NOT "in it together" with that bumbling psychopathic idiot frat boy. YOU may not mind manning the sails with that creature, but leave the rest of us the hell out of it.

4. Hey Joe, we aren't all in this together
Don't try to drag me down with your sinking ship, you lapdog.

Joe, switch parties and suckle up on your Chimperor's teat. But don't patronize me on what is right.

Right is abiding by your party's primary.

Right is opposing a war that makes us less safe.

Right is admitting when you are wrong instead of continuing to dig.

Holy Joe, choke on it.

6. Joe doesn't understand that there is no middle anymore.
This administration has gone to such an extreme that if you're in the middle, you're still on the right.

It is us against them. But it has nothing to do with the terrorists.

13. "demonize the president"? Bush is a tyrant!
Keith Olbermann said it best tonight:

Sept. 18, 2006 | 8:24 p.m. ET

Bush owes us an apology

For, there needs to be some other explanation, Mr. Bush, than that you truly believe we should live in a United States of America in which a thought is unacceptable.

There needs to be a delegation of responsible leaders -- Republicans or otherwise -- who can sit you down as Barry Goldwater and Hugh Scott once sat Richard Nixon down - and explain the reality of the situation you have created.

There needs to be an apology from the President of the United States.

And more than one.

But, Mr. Bush, the others -- for warnings unheeded five years ago, for war unjustified four years ago, for battle unprepared three years ago -- they are not weighted with the urgency and necessity of this one.

We must know that, to you, thought with which you disagree -- and even voice with which you disagree and even action with which you disagree -- are still sacrosanct to you.

And I'm PROUD to be against this asswipe.

You can all hang together - count me out.

It's your and your repuke whores war - not the Democrats or mine.

It was an ILLEGAL war based on LIES.

It has NOTHING to do with protecting US.

I will be glad to see you defeated SOUNDLY...

21. So you don't think turnabout is fair play, Joe?
You called me some pretty unsavory things for opposing this president and his murderous, ruinous policies. And yet, for all your rhetoric about a war on barbarism and terror, why are we having a discussion about the legality of torture? Do you think that we hold the moral high ground when we use the same barbaric tactics and the same barbaric methods?

Take a walk, Joe. Take a very long walk. Off a very short pier.

defending Chimp actually defending democratic ideals, you wouldn't be in the bad place you are today...

Just when I think it's not possible for me to loathe this piece of excrement any more than I already do, he makes me loathe him even a little bit more.
