McGreevey's been on Oprah; now NY Magazine, NYT are excerpting his book
Excerpts From ‘The Confession,’ McGreevey’s Autobiography
Published: September 17, 2006

New York magazine will publish excerpts on Monday from “The Confession,” an autobiography by former Gov. James E. McGreevey of New Jersey, who resigned from office in 2004 after saying he had had a gay affair with Golan Cipel, an Israeli national whom he appointed as the state’s homeland security adviser. From the book, published by Regan Books, which will be released on Tuesday:

Inauthenticity is endemic in American politics today. The political backrooms where I spent much of my career were just as benighted as my personal life, equally crowded with shadowy strangers and compromises, truths I hoped to deny. I lived not in one closet but in many....

Did McGreevey time the book's release for post-Labor Day, when the political season shifts into high gear? As many here have noted, it's not the gay issue, but McGreevey's conduct in office that makes the timimg of this PR campaign regrettable.

1. As a Democrat and a resident of NJ...
I could care less about his sexual orientation and I'm glad that he's finally at peace with his life but the SOB was corrupt plain and simple, you can't give important jobs like homeland security to your lover...it's just bad! With that said, I wish he would wait until Thanksgiving to release this book...Menendez can only be hurt by this PR blitz

3. Exactly - as a life long politician he has to know better
I really don't get why he thought a media blitz at election time was a good idea.

4. Exactly!
Remember, he also resigned in August 2004! Corruption leads people to do strange things!

5. I hate how he's trying to cover up his corruption with "The Confession"
trying to make a buck. This guy was a scumbag.
