Lieberman Defends Democratic War Critics
By CARA RUBINSKY , 09.15.2006, 11:02 AM

Sen. Joe Lieberman on Friday criticized Republicans who accuse Democratic
critics of the Iraq war of encouraging terrorists, arguing such talk "demeans
the freedom we are all fighting for."

The three-term senator, who is running as an independent after losing the
Democratic primary last month, made the comments months after assailing
members of his own party who complained about President Bush's war policies.

"It was wrong for some on the right to imply that some Democrats don't care
if the terrorists succeed, or that debating the merits of the president's war
policies emboldens our enemies," Lieberman said in prepared remarks for a speech
at Fairfield University. "That kind of attack on the motives of a large group
of Americans demeans the freedom we are all fighting for and weakens us
as a nation."

In December, the Connecticut senator publicly scolded anti-war critics within his
party's rank-and-file, drawing criticism from many Democrats.

Joe's new campaign theme is unity. This fits the campaign,
but his response to the BushCo smear machine is a bit slow otherwise.

And I will never trust this traitor again.

After saying just the opposite before he was in trouble:

"It is time for Democrats who distrust President Bush to acknowledge that he will be commander in chief for three more critical years, and that in matters of war we undermine presidential credibility at our nation's peril," Lieberman said.

Give me a fucking break. Anyone who buys his bullshit now gives new meaning to the word "sucker". :eyes:

5. I don't know how we'll ever trust him again
He says things to serve himself only. I will probably never trust most politicians again but he's a special case. He's a Benedict Arnold and a rat.

8. Joe, it's time to turn again or you'll burn.
That sensitive skin of yours, gotta protect it.

Now that you've said something in support of the Dems, time to flip over and give the GOP a few goodies...

9. Joe, cast the log out of thine own eye. We're not 'jihadists'
but that's what you called us Iraq war critics. You called us intolerant zealots. You didn't mind when Gingrich called us insurgents. Why the sudden change of heart? I thought you were a man of principle.

15. Connecticut poll numbers must not be looking too good
Lieberman is realizing that he's going to need to shore up his Democratic credentials if he doesn't want to end his political career by losing four of his last five elections.
