Has Colin Powell Grown A New Set of Balls?.........
Good letter he wrote re: torture and the Geneva Convention.

General Batiste was on CNN this morning and made Miles O'Brien look like a fool. The General called for Rummy's resignation and said that Condi's letter was full of double talk.

The wheels are coming off the cart and the cart is skidding out of control.

1. He's a johnny-come-lately.
He's partly responsible for all this mess, so he gets ZERO respect from me. He should've said this stuff when it meant something.

4. I'm no Powell fan AT ALL - but Wilkerson claimed WH even lied to Powell
to make sure he sold it to the senate and to the media. Wilkerson has been blistering BushInc about their lies for the last 2yrs. so he has some credibility with me.

He'd have alot more credibility if he spoke up during 2003-2004.

6. But on the other hand...
It has been said that members of the BushCo team should be able to admit their mistakes and change course. Given that Collin Powell has spent his life taking orders and carrying them out, it comes as no surprise that he carried water for the administration. Yet he is one of the few that had the decency to resign and try and ditance himself from this disaturous (sp) policy.

Remember it was under his leadership that he successfully waged the first Gulf War (of which I was a member)so I am inclined to at least give him the benfit of the doubt...IMHO

3. working on his conscience?
Considering he *worked the lie* to get our kids over there, I do NOT believe he's suddenly grown a set.

He's trying to clean up his IMAGE.

5. No, just a heavier burden of guilt.
He needs to assuage his sense of guilt for being an appeaser to the NeoCons.

8.  we need every voice
WE ALL must speak up TODAY.

I have some problems with his role in the lead-up to war but thats a luxury we can't afford.

we need every voice to deflate the lies and his is most welcome here

7. Arianna Huffington just said on CNN that Bush was increasingly delusional
when the CNN anchor tried to get her to say bad things about Powell and other critics of Bush's Enabling Act Part Deux.

Bush will be on TV again this morning. More fear mongering!

12. What happened to Arianna Huffington, an exorcism or what,
she was a right-wing nut job a couple years ago?

14. It's been a long time since she was a RW nutjob.
She underwent an evolution of her views, in much the same way that David Brock of Media Matters did.

9. What if he had acted this way BEFORE?
Edited on Fri Sep-15-06 08:37 AM by MaineDem
Sorry, he lost any respect that I did had for him when he went to the UN and lied.

However, if he does anything to bring down the BFEE I'm okay with it.

13. I'm glad he's finally saying something,
but this hardly qualifies as "growing balls" in my opinion.

I guess this has turned into such a fiasco, and Bushco is losing enough support, even among Repukes, that he maybe feels enough leeway to speak out.

Every little bit helps, but as far as my estimation of Colin Powell, it's still way too little way too late.

15. I think that Powell is fine american
and a good man. i havent always agreed with him on issues, but mostly i do. i am happy that he is asserting himself here and sad that his legacy has been ruined by his association with the Bush Administration.

16. No balls .... he's still following orders
This time from Poppy and Baker and Scowcroft and the others ..... who really have the power. They're executing a 'contract' of sorts that's been put out on Junior.

17. No . . .
I think he's realized that he may be at risk for aiding and abetting the criminal enterprises of the Bush administration. Time to try to achieve a little distance.

Colin Powell is and always has been about one thing: Colin Powell.
