What could Democrats do to put Bush on the defensive?
Edited on Thu Sep-14-06 09:07 PM by kentuck
As we all know by now, Bush and Rove are not comfortable unless they are on the offensive? They cannot stomach being on the defensive. What could Democrats say or do to put them on the defensive? Should they say ahead of the election that if they win the majority, there will be oversight and investigations? If laws were broken, we would not hesitate to impeach? And from the President's own admissions about moving prisoners from secret prisons and his comments about "torture", his disregard for the FISA laws, the NSA spying, etc, there is plenty to investigate. Should we just let Dubya know ahead of time that if we win the majority, there will be no more rubber stamps? He will be held to the letter of the law or he will be impeached? Not a threat, just a promise. Would that get his attention?

3. I think he is already on the defensive.
He's so angry and belligerent during interviews, and they are all ramping up the rhetoric like crazy. That tells me they feel like they've been backed into a corner -- this is not the behavior of confident people.

8. He was acting like a real tough guy
Standing there poking Matt Lauer in the chest.

I'll bet Matt enjoyed his Debra LaFave interview a lot more.

7. Well, let's see.
How about the Iraq war, Katrina, the national deficit, soaring health insurance costs, gas prices (don't worry, they'll soar again), Plame, his secretary whom he nominated for the Supreme Court (forget her name), and Osama bin Forgotten, for starters?

There is so much to work with. Our problem is that we are stuck with the Dem party who absolutely has no idea of how to run an effective offensive campaign. They're clueless.

10. KKKarl, (Bushes Brain) strategy is to always be on the offensive.
Their strategy says that once you have gone on the defensive, you have lost.

They will keep attacking at all costs even failing to put out the fires as the ship goes down in flames. That is their weakness. Hubris and pride.

11. I'm not sure it's possible.
In the weird world that is Bushreality, he has done nothing wrong and has nothing to apologize for. It is the poor fools and devious traitors who disagree with him who have reason to be on the defensive.

He gets a little testy sometimes when our obtuseness leads us to ask incredibly dumb, misdirected questions, but that's not the same as "defensive."

In order to actually get him on the defensive it would be necessary to do one of two things:

1. Enter Bushreality and, while somehow maintaining a connection to the notoriously liberal-biased ACTUAL reality, find some discontinuity within the swirling chaos that is Bushlogic and call him on THAT; or

2. Find a way to crash into Bushreality and destroy it, leaving the Chimperor a gibbering, incoherent, psychotic wreck, unable to even understand the concept of "defensiveness."

I'm not sure either is doable.

worriedly,
Bright

12. Short and sweet:
Bush has messed up EVERYTHING he's ever done. Now he's messing up the country and the Republican congress is helping him.
