3. WOW - I'm a "left winger"
You know, the only people I had read this were air force officers - hell, they wrote my intro -

Anyway - this is the skinny -

The tales of our fathers (and mothers, sometimes) in war may be the most important legacy ever left us. These “war stories” told by our parents on warm summer evenings haunt many of us to this day. They are warnings, a cry in the dark to future generations they may never know. The following pages are the autobiographical accounts of my parents in World War II. My father was a fighter pilot and my mother an evac nurse in the ETO 1944-45. These are the very human accounts of that most inhuman experience.

Guess I'm not so moderate then -

Joe

4. I had no idea!!! This appears in the front the book -

An absorbing and intimate portrait of two ordinary people faced with extraordinary choices. It is a vivid testimony to the heroism and courage of a generation. Riveting from the opening paragraphs, rich in historical detail, with images and period letters that transport one through those last days of World War II. This book has managed to highlight the humanity in the most inhuman of circumstances, and the crisis of conscience that can occur as duty to country conflicts with morality, even in the best of causes.

Written as if it were indeed our own parents telling their own war stories. We can feel as if we come to truly know these two people, see the war through their eyes, and perhaps gain a small amount of wisdom from their experiences. It is a haunting story.

As Base Surgeon for a Phantom fighter group during the Viet Nam War, I came to know many pilots and nurses in the service of our country. I would have been proud and honored to serve with these two - anytime.

I went to vet groups before I went to publish - I know they agree. SO - I think if I am "a left winger" so is our military.

Joe

Thank you for pointing out my "left wing" review. I had no idea.

6. I understand -
I come to this cold blooded conclusion, personally -

In matters of war, I only trust people that actually did the deal.

I don't have to agree with them point by point. As long as I know that they know what it really costs.

I think Clark knows,

Joe

16. Good Lord.
You're just biased, aren't you. Can't stand anything about the military and won't be progressive enough to open your mind to the possibility that not everyone in the military fits your little mold, eh?

I thought bias was reserved for conservatives. Guess that's not true with you.

15. Thanks - I didn't know that there was any such review.
It is kinda interesting - cause I know for a fact he couldn't have read that book on 4/19/06.
It wasn't available at the time.
Pretty bad review - especially from someone that didn't read it.
I really appreciate you pointing this out to me.

Joe

8. Uhm, I guess you arent up on curren events.
Armeggedon in Iraq HAS arrived. I guess you are unaware that the US is getting ready to surrender the whole western part of Iraq (Anbar province) to the Insurgency?

Try to get past your loathing of someone selling a book, to see the horrible crap that we have brought about.

17. What are you raving about?
His book is about WWII and not about Iraq. Why would his son being deployed in Iraq have anything to do with a military officer and a nurse in WWII?

How is that a sales pitch?

I'm not following you.

Edited on Fri Sep-15-06 01:40 PM by dionysus
last night. I was hammered and pissed off at things, nothing at all to do with you, or your book, or, lol will pitt.

I woke up this morning thinking "uh-oh, i think i was incredibly rude to someone on DU for absolutely no reason"

may it be a lesson for those who post while very drunk; you will make an ass of yourself.

Good luck with the book and sorry i was an asshole.

18. You have no problem with me.
You were also right that I am, or was screaming alarms about what was starting in Baghdad.
I meant every word. You can be sure it is a lot worse then they are saying.

But the book I wrote - it is about war (WWII) - and it is liberal, I suppose. And it says some VERY harsh things about the army - But all first person true and verifed over the last 6 years or so. It is really not related to my view on this Iraq war.

Lastly, you took the time to say what you did now - I think it says a lot about your character - and I appreciate it.

You know I really do feel funny about mentioning that book - When I was writting it, I only listened to former combat soldiers - I needed to know for myself I got it right. But now, I really care about the views of other children that grew up with parents from that war.

Strange, isn't it??

Joe
