a grassroots "nickels and dimes" campaign for Democrats?
Edited on Thu Sep-14-06 12:23 PM by welshTerrier2
there used to be a popular satire of wasteful Pentagon spending that said: "a billion here and a billion there and, before you know it, it adds up to real money" ...

it's a great thing that the Democrats are able to do well with fundraising ... it was a major problem in the past; it seems current fundraising should make the Party very able to compete with the fat-cat party ...

that's the good news ... but where is the funding coming from and what does it suggest about "lobbyists" and buying influence and the Party's ultimate agenda? is it reasonable to assume that the big spenders described in the article below contribute with "no strings attached"??

Senate Democrats Get More Big Donors

The DSCC has “experienced a surge in big-dollar contributions from individuals in the 2006 cycle, trouncing its GOP counterpart in the category and providing a critical cash edge to the party,” reports Roll Call.

“The DSCC has raised nearly $20 million from individuals who wrote a single check for $25,000 or more between Jan. 1, 2005, and July 31, 2006.”

“The take in maximum or near-maximum contributions to the DSCC represents a nearly 75 percent increase from the same period in the 2004 cycle.”

1. So,... What Does This Mean?
---- Does it mean that SUV's can continue to be counted as "trucks" for EPA mileage requirement purposes? Or that we won't fool around with those new, draconian personal bankruptcy laws? Or that cheaper Canadian prescription drugs will remain in Canada?

---- People seldom write checks that large because they like your necktie.

2. where is the money coming from?
The article doesn't say, other than "big-dollar contributions from individuals"... it's unknown if this money is coming from lobbyists - so it doesn't "suggest" anything.

Why "assume" anything? You don't know who these people are, you don't know the actual amounts.

I'm glad this money is going to the DSCC and not the RNC... I'll worry about "buying influence" once we can get some Democrats elected. Or would you rather the money went to Republicans, who have a track record with this sort of thing?

3. Nothing of the sort,.....
---- My concerns and reservations about these contributions do not mean that I will vote for republicans, have no fear. But anyone able to write a $25,000 check IS a de facto lobbyist in my book.
